From recent successful zombie films like Train to Busan (Korean) and World War Z, people just can’t get enough of zombies. And production companies heard the call. Here are the latest zombie offerings coming to cinemas. Here we have listed the best zombie flicks of 2019 and the new zombie movies coming out in 2019.
Pet Sematary
Directors Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer helm Pet Sematary, from the script of Jeff Buhler. The movie is based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name. The first film version came out in 1992. This time, it stars John Lithgow, Amy Seimetz, and Jason Clarke. The story follows a couple, Louis and Rachel Creed, as they move to a quiet country home. When their young son dies, Louis brings him to a pet sematary that used to be an ancient burial ground. He is able to resurrect his son but he is no longer just his son. Di Bonaventura Productions is behind this movie. It is slated to be released in April 2019, to be distributed by Paramount Pictures.
Zombieland 2
Thanks to Sony Pictures, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone reprise their roles as Tallahassee, Columbus, Little Rock, and Wichita respectively in this Zombieland sequel. The producers found it apt to celebrate the successful film’s 10th anniversary with a sequel. Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese come back as the writers of the production. They are joined by Godzilla and Expendables writer Dave Callaham. Ruben Fleischer will take the helm again as well. It is set to come out in October 2019.
World War Z 2
David Fincher is slated to direct the sequel to the blockbuster hit World War Z of 2013, that is one of the most popular zombie movies out there. Also coming back are Brad Pitt and Mireille Enos to assume their husband and wife role from the original. The movie’s storyline is still based on Max Brooks’ novel of the same name and Dennis Kelly takes on the challenge of rewriting the plot. Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment and SkyDance Media are the production companies behind the film. The production is set to be distributed by Paramount Pictures and United Pictures International.
Cargo
Released by Netflix in 2018, this zombie apocalypse film was directed by Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramke. In the story written by Ramke, it tells how husband and wife Andy and Kay live through a world where people who get infected by a virus turn into zombies. The film was first screened at the Adelaide Film Festival and later enjoyed a theatrical run in Australia. The movie stars Martin Freeman, Anthony Hayes, Susie Porter, and Caren Pistorius.
The Night Eats the World
French director Dominique Rocher helms the zombie flick, The Night Eats the World. It is based on the novel written by Pit Agarmen of the same name. The screenplay was written by Jeremie Guez, Guillaume Lemans, and Rocher. In the movie, Sam finds himself trapped in an apartment building surrounded by zombies. Quiet, quick, and alert to sight and sound, the zombies stealthily attack in hordes. The movie received mixed reviews from critics and the public. It won Best Picture from the Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival.
