Years ago you could have said that Saints Row was just a slightly wackier version of the Grand Theft Auto series that has revolutionized open world gaming, and you wouldn't be far off the mark. As someone who has put in hundreds of hours playing every GTA game, I can see why, despite commercial success, many fans were turned off by GTA IV, the latest entry in the series. For the longest time GTA fans were looking to sate their appetite for an open world game that focused more on having fun than having a somewhat deep narrative. In fact, you could say that the student has become the master, as Saints Row: The Third shines brighter than GTA IV in just about every way. Over time, the GTA series has put on a suit and tie, but Saints Row is lighting a bag of dog shit on fire and leaving it on your front steps.

The Lost and Damned, the first of two Xbox 360 exclusive DLC episodes for Grand Theft Auto IV, comes out tomorrow on Xbox Live. The meat of the add-on will be the new chunk of story where you'll play Johnny, a member of The Lost Motorcycle Club.
In addition to that, the game will feature new motorcycles (naturally) with improved handling, new music and radio shows, new episodes of Republican Space Rangers, new weapons, and new multiplayer modes. All for 1600 Microsoft points... or 20 dollars here in the real world. You will need the original GTAIV disc to play the DLC.
Check out the most recent trailer for the game after the break.

Jack Thompson, the infamous lawyer that attacked video games on nearly all fronts, is making the first steps to reverse a previous ruling made by the Florida Supreme Court that disbarred him for life. Last month, he filed the paperwork to the United States Supreme Court and hopes to practice law and speak out against the Bill of Rights once again.
Jack Thompson is hoping that the United States Supreme Court will consider his ap
peal of the Florida Supreme Court ruling that disbarred him for life.
In mid-December the anti-game attorney requested from the U.S. Supreme Court an extension of a Christmas Eve deadline in which to file what is known as a petition for a writ of certiorari.
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has granted Thompson's request,
meaning that the embattled anti-game violence advocate will have until February 18th to petition for cert with the Supreme Court.
While the extension is a positive development for Thompson, he nonetheless faces an uphill struggle. According to its website, the Supreme Court receives petitions to consider about 10,000 cases per year. Only about 100 of those will be granted a hearing.
Considering that his previous courtroom rantings have been against the First Amendment and a good portion of what America stands for, this will probably go nowhere, and he will remain disbarred. If this ever goes beyond the bureaucratic trash can, something is definitely wrong with the judicial system.

BBC News takes a look back at gaming in 2008 by asking some of the biggest names in the industry for their thoughts. Oh and for some reason they also asked "professional games player" Fatal1ty for his input.
GTA IV was a real moment for the industry. Rockstar nailed how you characterise a game and their engine and cut sequences are state of the art. However, only a few people actually saw all the cut sequences because the game was so tough to play. Are we making games too difficult? That's a question the industry has been asking itself of late.
Too difficult? For who? I was under the impression that games had gotten laughably easy in the last few years. Maybe Grandma still can't figure out these new-fangled video game machines but I think that's more because she doesn't care than it being beyond her ability. GTA IV is not a difficult game, perhaps somewhat frustrating with the lack of mid-mission checkpoints, but I doubt that the difficulty would stop anyone who was into the game from completing it.
