Podcast 43: PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

This week, the gang gushes over Trials Evolution, laments over Nintendo's financial woes, strokes their beards over Nintendo releasing major titles as digital downloads, and drags Sony over the coals for shamelessly ripping off Super Smash Bros.

MOST WANTED — May 2012

Posted May 2nd 2012 by Anthony DiPalma.

In 1862 (that's about 700 years ago), the Mexicans defeated the French in an unlikely, yet decisive victory in the Battle of Puebla. Every year since the Mexicans conquered the Cylons and saved the galaxy, celebrations were held in May to commemorate our brothers to the south. Our history may not be totally accurate, but our knowledge of the awesome games coming out this month are pretty on-point. Grab some Top Shelf Margs, pound some Coronas, and turn on your gaming system because May is going to be one hell of a month.

IMPRESSIONS — Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Multiplayer Beta

Posted April 27th 2012 by Frankie Aguilar.

Impressions - Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Multiplayer Beta

This past weekend the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier multiplayer beta went live. More than a few Ubisoft fans were treated to a chance to preview the latest installment of what can be seen as one of the godfathers of modern online multiplayer. The practice of releasing multiplayer betas has become increasingly in vogue due to the popularity and importance placed on a solid multiplayer presence in any game with a gun. Unfortunately, when you throw the word beta around, there's bound to be technical hiccups, but the hint of what could be was interesting enough.

SOURCE CODE — Metal Gear Solid

Posted April 20th 2012 by Frankie Aguilar.

Source Code: Metal Gear Solid

Almost every person with any kind of access to electronics plays video games in some shape or form. From Solitaire and Farmville to World of Warcraft and Call of Duty, video games hit with all demographics. However, there are points in most people's lives where a game comes along that turns them from a person that plays video games into a full fledged gamer. Any gamer worth their salt from my generation is gonna start by laying claim to Super Mario Brothers, Battletoads, Chrono Trigger, GoldenEye or even Zero Wing if only to secure O.G. status. They'll probably continue by rattling off their system history, console by console, making sure to wax nostalgic about all the gems featured on them. I'll admit, I've competed in these digital pissing contest a few times but that e-penis measurement, much like its real life counterpart, is wholly self serving. When you get down to a more personal level, most gamers have got to have that one title that made them realize, this isn't just a hobby for me, this is part of my life. And for me it is undoubtedly Metal Gear Solid.

PAX has been arguably one of the single greatest videogame conventions catered to the consumer since it began in 2004, and this year proved to be no different. PAX East 2012 was spread over the course of three days, beginning Friday, April 6th and ending on Sunday, April 8th. We decided to head over to the Boston Convention Center this weekend and check out the latest games coming out this year, as well as gain some insight from the developers who make them. Oh, and you can win some prizes by reading, too.

Most Wanted - April 2012

Posted April 3rd 2012 by Anthony DiPalma.

Forget the stupid pranks that every girl on Facebook posted claiming they were pregnant, the only fools this April will be the ones who don't check out the games coming out this month. While there aren't exactly a ton of new franchises to jump into, it looks like it's time to dust off that Nintendo Wii and Xbox Kinect for the first time in months. Here are the games you should look into for April!

A Storm of (s)Words

Posted February 29th 2012 by Anthony DiPalma.

A Storm of (s)Words — Why George RR Martin is the King of Fantasy

From the earliest of times when Beowulf was but a tale sung by bards to the premiere of the latest Harry Potter film that packed local malls with screaming teenagers, fantasy literature has always been popular—and for good reason. No other genre allows audiences to live in a time and place where magic and adventure are as common as popcorn in a movie theater. Whether it is because high fantasy transports us to a world outside of our own or whether it is because Edward Cullen is just so damn dreamy, everyone has their own special reason for appreciating the genre. Recently, a whole new audience was caught in the exciting world of A Song of Ice & Fire, or as fans of the TV show will recognize it, Game of Thrones. As someone who has spent countless hours in Narnia, Middle-Earth, Hogwarts, and Skyrim, I can safely say that George R.R. Martin, creator of the A Song of Ice & Fire series, is the absolute best at his craft. While J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis are considered the fathers of modern fantasy literature, George R.R. Martin is redefining the genre and making it better.
