Ouch. DS sales increased 10% and PSP sales fell 50%? Even if that's to do with shipping, that looks bad for Sony. I wonder if word-of-mouth about PSP defects are hurting sales.

It's strange that MGA didn't make this list at all. MG fans sticking to MGS3, perhaps?

GameCube numbers are out of control! Very good indeed, yet still no explination for the spike.

Oh and DS good as usual - yay.

Yeah, the real Japanese Holidays are Jan 1-3 which is bigger than Christmas. The DS owns.

Aren't Sony sending 100,000+ PSP's a week, those numbers are very small. Poor Sony................HAHAHAHAHAHA

I think a total of 300,000 units have shipped to Japan, which means around 80% of all units are sold.

I'm not saying that Sony is doing bad but they were so unpreparied.

Well Sony decided they had other priorities to attend to, which in the end paid off, by creating shortages of PSP's in exchange of more PSTwo's was a smart move in my book.

Good point. They have to sell more PS2's for the people that have broken ones... Wink

DS is doing very well. Smile

I have a theory... you see, recently they started celebrating a holiday called Christmas. Supposedly, the people buy gifts for one another, wrap them, and come "christmas" day the people give the gifts to their family's and loved ones. I know, it sounds totaly crazy! But that's the way I hear it...

IGN seems to have some different numbers, but they also cite Media Create as their source.... Confused

http://ds.ign.com/articles/575/575624p1.html

1. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2): 487,000 units (487,000 total)
2. Tales of Rebirth (PS2): 372,000 (372,000)
3. Dragon Quest VIII (PS2): 116.000 (3,113,000)
4. Wario Ware Touched! (DS): 75,000 (249,000)
5. Super Mario 64 DS (DS): 68,000 (241,000l)
6. Daito Giken Koushiki Pachislo Simulator Yoshimune (PS2): 57,000 (234,000)
7. Pokemon Emerald (GBA): 57,000 (1,250,000)
8. Mario Party 6 (GCN): 57,000 (268,000)
9. Dynasty Warriors (PSP, Koei): 56,000 (56,000)
10. Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team of Blues (GBA): 54,000 (120,000)

Though the newly released Shin Sangoku Musou (Dynasty Warriors) for PSP landed the #9 spot on the weekly charts with 56,000 units, DS launch title Pokemon Dash (#15) also still remains ahead with a cumulative 109,000 sold copies. Konami's new Metal Gear Acid for PSP made its entry on #20 with 24,000 copies in three days of sales.

2. Tales of Rebirth (PS2): 372,000 (372,000)

King of Hyrule, those seem to be the numbers that were posted yesterday that are not M-Create. They are possibly Enterbrain or Dengeki. If you look at last week's M-Create thread and add this week's sales for Wario and Mario DS, you will see that the totals are off. The ones I posted are consistant with what was posted last week.

But mine are definately M-Create. This is from their actual site:

The top 100 titles sold a total of 2,373,475 units this week, 143.54% of last week's total and 239.30% of the weekly average. Market activity has proven vigorous, thanks to the Christmas sales rush being in full swing and the launch of two exciting titles, "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" and "Tales of Rebirth." Total sales during the same period in 2003 (Week 3, December 2003) numbered 2,123,300 units, and 2,165,045 units in 2002. Coinciding releases of new hardware has made this year more dynamic than usual.

Twenty-one new titles made the rankings, accounting for 50.82% of sales. "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" placed first, selling about 548,000 units. This is a record-high figure for the "Metal Gear Solid" series in terms of first week sales. How "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" does in Japan and around the world will be in focus, given that this title has been highly regarded abroad as well. Meanwhile, "Tales of Rebirth" totaled about 335,000 units in sales. "Tales of Rebirth" is the first completely new title available in PS2 since the release of "Tales of Destiny 2." Compared to "Tales of Destiny 2," which sold about 446,000 units in the first week, "Tales of Rebirth" performed somewhat disappointingly. Presumably one of the reasons why is because it competed with "Dragon Warrior VIII," another RPG title.

I wish Tales of Rebirth would come out for the Cube. Considering how well TOS did it would only make sense. Does anyone know the exact number of copies that TOS sold?

They actually give eachother gifts for the new year. It's pretty similar to Christmas over there this time of year.

Actualy... they do. To a certain extent, anyhow. It's just not nearly as large of a holiday in Japan as it is in the west. Now... new years, however, is a much different story.

December 23
Emperor's Birthday (tenno no tanjobi):
The birthday of the current emperor is always a national holiday. If the emperor changes, the national holiday changes to the birthday date of the new emperor.

December 24-25
Christmas:
Christmas is not a national holiday, but it is celebrated by an increasing number of Japanese.

January 1-3
New Year (shogatsu):
This is the most important national holiday in Japan.

Second monday of January
Coming of Age (seiji no hi):
The coming of age of 20 year old men and women is celebrated.

These are the Japanese holidays for this time of the year, where more important, as Deity said, is New Years.
