Should I buy a PS2? Yes, I'm seriously considering purchasing a PS2 with my xmas money this year. Although I have many questions to ask before I do so, and I'd like your opinions. 1st, my list of wanted games (some higher than others obv, Wanda and Katamari are at the top pretty much), keep in mind I only compiled this list from a small casual search of gamespot.Ico Wanda and the Colossus 2005 Katamari Damacy Katamari Damacy 2 2005 Rez Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater Dragonball Z Budokai 3 Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2005 Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 2 2005 Tales of Rebirth 2005 Disgaea Hour of Darkness Dragonquest VIII 2005 Phantom Brave Growlanser Generations Okami 2005 I would like your opinions upon these games. I have yet to actually play a Metal Gear game, but the series looks intriguing, and I was afraid before that I would play Twin Snakes, get hooked, and force myself to buy a PS2. I can already tell its a great series. As you can see from this list, I love RPGs, and the cube gets almost none, but what to add? I've never played a FF game before, although its not as though they have much in common with eachother, its just square enix doing what they do best. And I'm afraid that if I buy so many RPGs, I'll get myself burned out on them. I would really appreciate your list of good PS2 games. Now before you waste your time listing some things, I'll tell you now that I don't want things like Jak or Ratchet, I don't care for sports games period, I'm generally not a fan of fighters (2d or 3d) but I can be open minded. And whats the difference between the new thinner lighter PS2, and the older larger PS2 besides just the price? Is the new one worth the $50 more? Are there any sort of bundles out that you would recommend? I really know nothing about the memory cards for the PS2. 1st, how much does the average game use on the average memory card? How much memory do larger games like Disgaea use? Are there 1st party memory cards (I really hope so)? What other info should I have about the PS2 cards, I've only been introduced to the cube so far. How often do PS2s break down? Are disc read errors a constant annoyance? Anything else I should know? And I really appreciate any help I can get, I'll give cookies to everyone who actually helps out. ___________________

Of course you should buy a PS2. It's got the most diverse library out of all of the home consoles, and it also plays the gigantic and stellar PSX library as well. If those aren't good reasons, Katamari Damacy is the best one I can come up with. Oh, and Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil. PSX game suggestions: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Castlevania Chronicles Metal Gear Solid Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions Silent Hill Klonoa: Door to Phantomile Suikoden Suikoden II Final Fantasy Chronicles (Final Fantasy IV + Chrono Trigger) Final Fantasy Anthology (Final Fantasy V + Final Fantasy VI) Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy IX Final Fantasy Tactics Chrono Cross Xenogears Tales of Destiny Tales of Destiny 2 Breath of Fire III Breath of Fire IV Persona Persona 2: Eternal Punishment Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo To name a few. ___________________ right for you again and again my velvet goldmine |

My Ps2 hasnt broken down yet, has only had 3 disc read errors, and it is kinda annoying. I suggest you get it, or wait for Ps3, and get some Ps2 games (It will likely play Ps2 games) and, some games I suggest are: Spiderman 2 Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Final Fantasy X Final Fantasy X-2 (if you enjoyed X) Kingdom Hearts Grand Theft Auto 3 Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Devil May Cry Enter The Matrix (it was fun for me) Tony Hawk's Underground Tony Hawks Underground 2- World Destruction Tour The Getaway AceCombat 04: Shattered Skies AceCombat 05: The Unsung War Tak and The Power of Juju Tak 2- The Staff of Dreams StarOcean 3 (rented it, loved it) Contra Shattered Soldier Simpsons Hit and Run Simpsons Road Rage Onimusha Warlords Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny Onimusha 3: Demon Seige *Yet to be released* God of War Final Fantasy 12 Devil May Cry 3 Shadow of Rome Wanda and The Colossus Nightmare Before Christmas Oogie's Revenge Xenosaga Episode 2 Kingdom Hearts 2 Dragon Warrior 8 Final Fantasy Dirge of Cerebus The Getaway Black Monday Oz Genji Gran Turismo 4 Suidoken 4 Tekken 5 Champions Return To Arms Tenchu Fatal Shadows Haunting Ground Shining Tears Katamari Damacy 2 Rise of the Kasai New WWE Wrestling Gam |

yes get a ps2, if only for ico ico is seriously like my favorite ps2 game. i like it so much. previous poster mentioned klonoa 2. that game is also great, but a bit on the easy side. you cant go wrong with final fantasy x or x-2 if you like rpgs. jak and sly are probably the best platformers. arc the lad twilight of the spirits is fantastic, and im sure it's pretty cheap these days. wild arms 3 is another great one. and a remake of wild arms 1 is coming out eventually too! ps2 #1 ___________________ ![]() Get your Portable ID!" |

Yes you should get one if you want those games. Don't let the fanboys stop you from getting a great system with great games. Like fudge said, it's worth it for Ico. Plus there are so many great games that are only on PS2. ___________________

rez and ico are overrated by the pretentious lot(and rez was better on dreamcast). but a ps2 is well worth getting just dont get the slimline model they're cheaply made, the design is appualing and tacky, not enough heating so many break within 30 minutes, laser is way too hot and a recall is due in a few weeks apparently |

i never played rez but from what ive seen of it, it doesnt look like my type of game and i dont know if it's been mentioned or not, but the slim ps2 doesnt support the hard drive. EDIT: OOPS IT HAS BEEN MY BAD! so if you want to play any games that use the HD (i think resident evil outbreak and ffxi are the only ones at the momente...) then just get the normal ps2. ive had my ps2 for a few years now, and it's working just like the day i got it. ___________________ ![]() Get your Portable ID!" |

Resident Evil Outbreak supports the HDD but doesn't require it, same goes for Socom 2. FFXI is the only game that requires it. ___________________

I'd say a Playstation 2 is worth it just for the sole reason of playing past Spyro the Dragon games, without a doubt some of the best platforming games ever. I'm going to be honest, PS2 is probably my least favorite of the three, but it has some of the best titles for each genre out there so it should definetly get a look at. |

And I'm afraid that if I buy so many RPGs, I'll get myself burned out on them. You will not get burnt out trust me. I have a backlog of games but I always make time for my RPG's and I have a GIGANTIC PS2 collection of games. I would really appreciate your list of good PS2 games. Now before you waste your time listing some things, I'll tell you now that I don't want things like Jak or Ratchet, I don't care for sports games period, I'm generally not a fan of fighters (2d or 3d) but I can be open minded. Here is a list of GOOD games I think are worth a purchase Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War Ape Escape 2 Champions of Norrath Chaos Legion Dark Cloud 2 Devil May Cry Disgaea: Hour of Darkness Final Fantasy Anthology,Chronicles,Origin,Tactics,7,8,9,10,10-2 Front Mission 4 Gradius V Growlanser Generations Ico La Pucelle tactics Phantom Brave Maximo vs. Army of Zin Maximo: Ghosts to Glory Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Onimusha 1,2,3 Shadow Hearts: Covenant Silent Hill 2,3,4 Star Ocean: Till the End of Time Suikoden III Suikoden IV Wild Arms 3 Xenosaga 1 Chrono Cross Legend of Mana Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete Persona 2: Eternal Punishment Star Ocean 2 Threads of Fate Thousand Arms Vagrant Story Valkyrie Profile Vandal Hearts 2 Xenogears Castlevania: Symphony of the Night there are more but you get my drift lol And whats the difference between the new thinner lighter PS2, and the older larger PS2 besides just the price? Is the new one worth the $50 more? Are there any sort of bundles out that you would recommend? the new one is smaller and much faster at loading and from what I know both the regular and the new slim one are the same price at 150. I also dont know of any bundles but you can check gamestop and ebgames.com I really know nothing about the memory cards for the PS2. 1st, how much does the average game use on the average memory card? How much memory do larger games like Disgaea use? Are there 1st party memory cards (I really hope so)? What other info should I have about the PS2 cards, I've only been introduced to the cube so far. You most likely will only need one memory card and most games dont take much memory. the only games that take MASSIVE memory are the games you dont like(sports games) so you should worry about filling up your memory card anytime soon. There are other type of memory cards but I'd go with the regular memory cards. If you get psone games you will need a psone memory card and most games take like 1 friggin memory on a card that prolly holds like a couple hundred so you are in good shape. How often do PS2s break down? Are disc read errors a constant annoyance? its weird for some people it all comes down to how you take care of your ps2. if you take care of it it will last you a very long time. Anything else I should know? And I really appreciate any help I can get, I'll give cookies to everyone who actually helps out. nothing else you really need to know but all I can say if you decide to get one hit me up whenever you like about games etc... I'm sure I can help you with alot if needed. |

I myself don't have a PS2, and want one. But I have a large enough game backlog on gamecube/xbox/PC/DS/PS1 that I'll wait for the PS3 and catch up on all the good games later. ___________________

The people that don't like ICO are apart of the mainstream media. Sorry guys. Definately get a PS2. It's by far the best console this generation(which everyone knew it would be). I would be careful about the rpgs on PS2. They're not that great compared to PS1 rpgs. Stay away from FFX:horrible voice acting and magic system, cut scenes every 5 minutes, not to mention random battles every 5 seconds, and the battle system is very boring. If I were you I'd go for PS1 rpgs and play them on your PS2 such as Vagrant Story, Valkryie Profile, Suikoden 2, Persona 2, and Final Fantasy 8. Those are just the ones on the top of my head. As for games on PS2 get: ICO Ace Combat 4/AC5 MGS2/MGS3 DMC VF4:EVO If you like DBZ, Budokai 3 Gran Turismo 3 ___________________ The secular progressive movement(liberals)are ruining this country. ![]()

Yes, yes, YES! It's right up there with the GC, and IMO, far superior to the Xbox. I've just started purchasing older games, and you wouldn't imagine the quality you can get for $20 a pop. And the best is yet to come for the PS2. AAA games for $20 or under: Final Fantasy X Final Fantasy X-2 Kingdom Hearts Ico (quite possibly my favorite game this generation) Devil May Cry Katamari Damacy Dark Cloud 2 Gran Turismo 3 (with 4 coming out so soon, I'd pass on this one) Jak 2 Ratchet and Clank 2 Here are the majority of my PS2 games. Oh, and don't listen to the Square haters. If you enjoy RPGs, Final Fantasy X is the best thing this generation. Same with Ico, but that game is for a specific tastes only. ___________________ Kung Fu treachery. |

Personally I am not a PS2 fan, but I must admit it is the best console for RPGs. It has strong third party support as well, so there are some good reasons to get it. ___________________ ![]() Quote: "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. And df0--whatever the hell your name is, have you ever played Ico? I'm not talking about a demo, I mean for a long period of time? It's an amazingly beautiful game with an excellent atmosphere and a real sense of being secluded in an environment with little hope of getting out alive. *takes deep breath* No game since Super Metroid has ever given me that feeling. The Chronicles of Riddick comes close (which every Xbox owner should own, by the way). Oh, and don't listen to Good Doctor. He's an "arrogant prick". ___________________ Kung Fu treachery. |

I will never understand why people hate Final Fantasy X and X-2. Both have some great battle systems, great characters, some of the best damn graphics ever, great spells and weapons. The bosses and enemies are in great variety and the story was awesome. |

I'm just going to say this now, if you are big into the RPG's the PS2 is your wet dream, for everyone else the system is about average. Honestly the most fun I've had with the system this generation have been the GTA games (obviously) and a few in house Sony games like Hot Shots Golf, Jak and Daxter and Twisted Metal Black, other then that, most of the games that are quality can most likely be found on another system with more features (usually) and better graphics. |

No active time, Summons fighting for you, learning skills that are outside the characters' boundaries. Your characters get to learn the same old techniques that were ''out of their boundaries'' for a while, but that makes every character have the same, freaking abillity. Talk about hardly any distinction from one character's style from other character's style, and let alone a cheap way to crunch out more hours for the game by fighting more and more pointless battles until you get more sphere points. ___________________ The secular progressive movement(liberals)are ruining this country. ![]()

Yes, the PS2 is mostly good for RPGs, and, in my opinion, for import lovers. Most great and unique PS2 games stay in Japan. I honestly couldn't care less for PS2's USA library of games, except for a few (and PSX titles). |

It is recommended that you buy a PS2. It has tons of GOOD games, and GREAT ones, too. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is a GREAT game that should be in your library...The game is absolutely awesome...I beat it, and I am really proud of Hideo Kojima putting out another quality title. There are a few games you should also consider buying. If you love 2D titles, here are my picks: Sonic Mega Collection Plus Mega Man Anniversary Collection And....Gradius V. Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner is one of the best, no wait, THE best mech games on the market....You'll love it. And most of the games mentioned in this thread are also recommended by me. |

I got the PStwo for christmas... i love it. I am a DDR fan, i have some nice thick pads coming in the mail soon and i can't wait. DDR with the controller for now Also, FFX for $20 is absolutely amazing. That game, albeit old, is so awesome. I am not an RPG fan... the only RPG i've played and enjoyed has been FF7... RPGs dont' go with me but i love FFX. The slim version rules. My sister has been playing for like 6 hours straight (oh poor thing... she never plays videogames but is hooked to FFX....) and it's fine. Any sources for this recall stuff? ___________________ steamid: chowdy |
