Wow My house caught on fire about two hours ago. Almost half of the upstairs is burned, the rest of the house is fine aside from the smoke smell. But man, wow. My dad's room is where it started and was the only room to burn, but it's like really bad in there. It was crazy. I was the only one upstairs, everyone was downstairs (My mom and dad) and I smelled smoke. But I thought it was just my Dad's cigarette smoke or something, but it didn't really smell like that. So I asked if they smelt it when I went downstairs. Then I went back up to check and I saw bright orange flames coming out of my Dad's room. I ran downstairs and yelled out fire and Mom and Dad ran upstairs and grabbed an extinguisher. I grabbed a phone and started filling up buckets of water. I called 911 and yelled and of course I was panicking so it was hard to understand them. They kept asking all these questions I was just like there's a fire at my house send the fire department. I was trying to give dad buckets of water and talk and the same time. So in a few minutes they arrived. And they ran up the stairs with their hose and axes and didn't have to spray much. Most of it was taken care of. But it was still on fire. They had to tear out the floor and the wall to get it all. The cause was most likely from where my Dad who had finished a cigarette and put it out in an ash tray then dumped it in the trash can next to his bed then went downstairs. The trash can caught on fire and then his bed and then the clothes and everything. It sucks because he just bought a brand new $1000 dollar mattress a week ago and now it's absolutely ruined. I was outside when they were putting it out. The street was blocked off and everyone was out of their houses looking. But it is a good thing we were home, or our house would have burned to the ground. We're really lucky. I don't know if we'll stay here tonight, the smoke smell is really bad. That's another big thing, all of our clothes and stuff, everything smells like smoke. But I dunno, it could have been alot worse. |

Dude that sucks. So did it get the entire 2nd floor, or just your dads room? ___________________ ![]() Quote: "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. " Xbox Live GT: Dr Applebee |

Well on our 2nd floor its my room, Mom and Dad's room, the bathroom and the guest room, but my parent's room is huge it takes over half the 2nd floor. So just a big portion of the 2nd floor. About the smoking, I really hope so. But I doubt it. |

That really sucks, you should force your Dad to stop smoking, or at least stop smoking inside the house. |

That sucks Metty, but at least everyone's ok. Would insurance cover an act of negligence? Isn't there usually a clause in more policies so that they don't have to pay out for crap that the homeowner has caused? Anyway, your dad should've known better. If you're going to toss a cigarrette into a wastepaper basket, even if you think it's completely out, you should wet it first to make sure that the flame is completely extinguished. I hate to say it, but this serves him right. He should be thankful that his negligence didn't cost him something a lot more valuable then just replaceable furnishings. If he won't stop smoking, ask him to at least not smoke in the house because you'd rather not risk that happening again. |

If it's any consolation, he was probably smoking the cigarette after sex with your mom. Or some other woman. |

And I was all ready to come in here and make fun of Eric solely because it was a thread that he started. Maybe I still will. I don't think so though. That sucks Eric, you should like put poison in your dad's cigarettes and then he'll stop smoking for sure. |

The fire didn't reach any other part of the house beside that room, but the smoke was everywhere. About the insurance my parents were working on it last night I don't really know though. But hopefully. |

Wow, Eric, that really sucks. I'm glad to hear you're alright. It could have been much worse. Insurance might cover it. I sure hope they do, and I hope your Dad realizes how much more he could have lost. It's just the wake up call that he needs. Tell him how glad you are that he wasn't sleeping in the room when it went up in flames. That should make him think twice about lighting up, especially in the bedroom. Thank God no one was hurt. |
