Nintendo goes online with the...
IQUE

Nintendo recently announced they will finally ship the iQue USB Cable Upgrade. The magic accessory allows downloading new games, updating the iQue through the Internet, online play of iQue ported N64 titles and to communicate with other iQue owners. The cable is supposed to be available within two weeks
Whether this gives us a glimpse of how the NintendoDS' online features will work, if this development is completely separate franchise from other Nintendo developments, or if the online multiplayer modes are already built into the previously published titles such as the iQue ported Mario Kart, remains unanswered from iQue Limited but rest assured we here at Cube-Europe will keep you updated as more is known.

In 2 weeks owners of the iQue will be able to take advantage of Nintendo's first official venture in the online world. Many Nintendo fans were looking for Nintendo to make this type of move with their GameCubes, but unfortunately for them, it will not happen.

Are you frustrated Nintendo is taking the iQue online, but not the GameCube? Do you feel abandoned at all?

Or, do you understand why Nintendo has decided to officially take the iQue online as opposed to your GameCube? Does this move make sense to you?

I would assume that the project as a whole would be a FAR FAR FAR greater task for the GC. Perhaps Nintendo are gonna take a stab at getting it right with the iQue and the DS to make sure they know what they are dealing with by the time Revolution comes to light. I would also assume that it it far to late in the GC life cycle to properly execute, advertise and maintain a sizable network considering they have never had a true, working model in the past.

To answer your question, I think it's understandable.

What are you talking about? Nintendo's been online before, with the SNES for example. And this USB cable thing isn't really any different from the broadband adaptor.

It's only for BUYING games online not playing them. This could lead to rom distrubution as well... If Nintendo releases this thing here and offers roms for sale they could make a killing.

You're failing to see the difference. Instead of simply providing the means to go online, Nintendo is supporting online interaction by providing content for users to download.

If anybody gets mad about this, they're retarded. You can't download games onto the GameCube. Just hope the DS supports it.

It's is different: It's worse. You need to install dedicated software on a PC, with two free USB ports and Internet connection. I thought iQue was to prevent piracy but now they're calling for it!

I won't get mad about this. Because at the very least I don't live in communist China and have to play the crappy iQue.

I try to keep my mind on the future. If the Revolution is as online retarded as the GCN THEN I'll be pissed.

No problem, don't consider it getting owned, just getting informed. Owned is such a harsh word. I certainly wasn't trying to own you.

Wow you are all a bunch of not easily satisfied wankers Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) A Nintendo system is going online with actual real online support. As for piracy, its not like you can't play n64 games on your PC anyway......

Weee! I hope this is telltale of real DS online support (i.e. first party games online).

Good thing someone is smart around here... Big Grin

I do see the whole piracy thing though. So are these common flash memory cards or are they special flashcards from Nintendo? Even with the USB connection, maybe the cards are protected amazingly well... oh whatever.

Imagine if this online service turns out to be immensely popular and profitable, Nintendo might get a less fearful opinion of online services. Dance
