Why do people keep assuming that the PS3 wand offers better control than Wii M+ does? Despite the PR talk, I guarantee there will be as many quirks with their tech as there is with the Wiimote - if not more. I'm far from convinced that it's a "better Wii". Did they even allow any hands on demonstrations?

And for Natal - well at least they did offer hands on demos (despite the Milo smoke and mirrors nonsense). But I'm not sold on controllerless gaming. For example, without a button, there's no way it will know accurately when I pull a trigger or release a bean bag (bowling ball) or etc.. There's plenty of cool tech in Natal, but they haven't really translated that to better gaming experiences yet.

I agree with Buzzjive, the Wii is the only place where such realistic bean bag toss games can be created.

Sorry if I'm mistaken but did anyone on the n-philes staff actually play Natal?

Natal should also be capable of 1:1 movement. Going off of the videos.

I did and it was awesome for being so early into development. I cannot wait for it to be released. I'm only worried about the price point for it.

I'm not talking about PR talk, I'm talking about the tech demos they showed off. It was very very clear that the PS3 wand offers actual 1:1 movement, in addition to recognizing where you are in the room. No one is assuming it's better, we're observing how it's better.

And no, they didn't offer any hands on demos, the final controller design isn't even done.

I know this comes across as it seeming like I'm balls deep into the PS3 motion controllers, I'm really not. I'm not overly keen on motion controllers on the whole, to be frank. The longer they're around the more of a novelty they seem to be, and the fewer actual applications there seem to be. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong, perhaps motion control really is THE FUTURE.

My only point is that as far as motion control for the three companies goes, Sony seems to have the most impressive, albeit earliest in development, hardware.

i think Natal will Fail as a new console/concept.
its ok but it looks even more tiresome than the wii, i dont see ppl playing that fighting game on the demo for 1 hour, or skating or driving. lets face it most gamers are fat, or lazy thats why we play. nothing more comfortable than siting on a couch moving and pressing buttons, and lets face it how many wii games require that you are actually standing up.
I played bags from a sofa and i still got like 7 staright shots.
but if that thing detects movements then ill be forced to stand up.

In a controlled environment it performed about as good as WM+. The demos were good for the most part, though you could see him struggling with shooting the arrows (call the shot was fail). You're giving a scripted Sony demo WAY too much benefit of the doubt.

I thought the biggest failure was when he couldn't hit the balls coming at him. The stuff I'm talking about, though, was when you were able to see the wand on screen and saw how responsive it was to the movement, it never lagged, wigged out or failed to do exactly what the presenter was doing.

It's still early and the guys aren't game designers. They are engineers and that's probably why it felt early and rough around the edges. but still very promising.

What do you suppose happens when he drops the controller that his sword or shield is in? Or worse yet, swaps hands real quick? Does it count as 1 to 1 if the item he's holding actually goes through his head (like the ball and chain he swings around)? There's going to be lots of quirks and inconsistencies once people actually try it out.

I think calling it a better Wii is misleading when there's still so many unknowns.

My favourite with 1 to 1 is feedback. Swordfight, you swing your sword, which clashes with some bad guy's. Your hand keeps going, and your sword does ... what? Passes through the other sword to keep the 1-to-1 intact?

I still don't see how they plan on solving that.

It does what the Wii does, but better. I don't think anyone is saying its a perfect device without quirks or flaws, but it certainly looks like the Sony thing is a superior technology.

How can you be excited for Natal and not care about the PS3 motion controllers? It was pretty clear that the PS3 controllers worked about a million times better than Natal.

It isn't even close. The Natal we saw was a joke. Granted, neither tech demo really did anything for me. Call me back when you can hit the ball with your racket, Sony tech guy.

Anyway, it's all about the Last Guardian, Uncharted 2, and the usual lineup of Nintendo sequels. Splinter Cell also blew me away, but I need to see more. The demo they showed could have easily been a Bourne game. Hopefully we'll get to do some real Splinter Cell stuff later on.

By unleashing an unprecedented level of rumble into the wii remote that jostles your nerves so badly that it locks up your arm.

Or something actually reasonable, who knows.

I'm way more excited about Natal personally. I only watched a highlight reel of it though so I didn't really see its shortcomings. Watched the whole Sony conference and their new project seems to require a bit of work. Came across more as an unfinished prototype than anything else. The possibilities are there but it'll be a while before its potential can truly be realised.
