Cornhole! WiiWare! Bags! My 1st Game!
So IGN has finally let the cat out of the Bag (ha) by announcing Target Toss Pro: Bags for WiiWare. Those in the know have seen me around these parts for a while (4 or 5 years? wow) - and you know I broke in to the game industry something like 2 and a half years ago. The journey has certainly been interesting, but FINALLY I'll be getting my name in the credits here. I've essentially been a Project Manager and the Lead Engineer on this title from the start, and I'm stoked that you guys will finally get to see something that I've been doing.

The arcade game is very fun, and I'm happy with what we've got going on in the WiiWare version. IGN has the exclusive story right now, and there's no other press out there just yet, so I probably can't talk much else about the game itself. But hey - take a look and let me know what you think (and you haters go easy on me Tongue)

Bags? Is this some kind of joke? Erm

And who the Hell is Incredible Technology? What happened to n-Space? EDIT: NVM that part, it is explained in the interview.

NO JOKE! Though yes - it took some time before I could stop snickering about "Bags" a.k.a. "Cornhole" and "Wii"

Yeah - those guys made the arcade version - we're doing the WiiWare version.

Of all things you're making a Bean Bag Tossing game...? And for WiiWare no less? Please tell me n-Space has been doing more than this since Geist.

They have this game the Buffalo Wild Wings here in town. Never played it (or seen anyone play it) though.

But for you? I'll pick it up. DON"T LET ME DOWN.

Nope! It's taken 2 and a half years and a company of about 100 people to make this title Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I obviously can't talk about other projects and I can't really talk development details, but it's been a very small team and a very quick dev cycle. I've really enjoyed working on it and learning all the new stuff it has taken to bring this out as a WiiWare title.

Come on Buzzjive, you've been here five years and you still don't know to post links in the first post? :p

http://wii.ign.com/articles/870/870769p1.html

It's not the type of game content-wise that would immediately grab me, but it's really the mechanics that'll make or break it, and I'm sure you guys did a great job. I'll look into it!

I found this interesting though:

IGN: Finally, how much will Bags cost on WiiWare?

Andy Kniaz: In the end, Nintendo sets all pricing for WiiWare based on the game and its contents, so because we are not in the launch window final pricing hasn't been established yet. I can say based on discussions we have had with Nintendo, that Bags will be competitively and aggressively priced. Our pay to play product usually costs about a $1 each time you play, so we believe that players will be happy with what we come up with.

I thought Nintendo just checked to make sure the game was bug-free, and then left everyone else up to developers? I think I'd rather they not be involved to heavily in things like pricing, to be honest. And with the way the Virtual Console has been going of late, I wish they didn't control the releasing schedule either. :0

This first time I heard about Wii Ware, this was the game I hoped someone would create, if not I would have taken a loan and bought the kit and made it myself. Coming from Kentucky where Cornhole is very popular I'm really excited about it. As long as it's not more than $20 this will be a definite buy for me. Multiplayer is going to be an absolute blast. Way to go BuzzJive be sure to keep us updated!

Wow FMG, way to pass judgement on a game you haven't played yet. I've played cornhole in real life, and it's a lot like horseshoes in that it's simple but addicting. I can imagine this getting as much play time as Wii Sports Bowling.

My internet connection is being an asshat, so I can't view the page. Judging from what everyone else is saying I doubt I'd be interested in this, but congratulations on getting your name in the credits of a game.

Like Golden Tee, this looks like one of those quirky games you'd find an arcade at the bowling alley or one of those games you'd play in between regular games. So yeah, I suppose I could see an audience for this game as long as it's no more than $5 (but it will be since Nintendo's in control of the pricing). Even $10 could have been a reasonable price when compared to flops on Xbox Live and PSN, but once I thought about it, I relized that this game would then be on the same grounds as games like Chicken Shoot. So now that this project is almost what I presume to be finished, I supposed what it boils down to now is the pricing.

(haha - guilt)

I'll truly appreciate if anybody here gives the game a shot just because it is my first game to come out, but I also believe it's a pretty fun little game and worth the $7 Smile

As far as I know it is still in the cards, but NOE submission has not begun yet. The NOA process was trouble enough. We'll regroup again after Monday.

The game looks pretty impressive graphically, so kudos on that. I love the over the top corny-ness from the over zealous announcer. Making bean bag toss crazy bad ass and whack!

Just too bad it is coming out now of all times, where gamers/people are busy with the holiday season rush of games/things to do. It would have made a nice Jan-Feb slump game.

I downloaded it about a half an hour ago, it took around 2 minutes, and so far I'm highly impressed and really enjoying it. I'll go ahead and get it out of the way by saying it is a definite buy for anyone who likes playing cornhole.

My biggest worry was about how realistic the throwing motion would be, as it would probably make or break the game for me, but after playing it a good 30 minutes I couldn't be happier with it. My first throw I just tossed it like I would regularly outside and got a cornhole first try. Whether it's just my particular style or the ease of the difficulty with no wind I found it to be fairly easy to get a cornhole. However, I experimented with the different wind speeds and it was much more difficult. I was impressed that even the slight wind has, while very minimal, some degree of affect on your toss, just as it should, and that heavy wind is very difficult to toss through. These may seem like obvious mechanics, but I've bought games full price that didn't pay attention to such details like Buzzjive and team obviously have in this $7 one. I'm looking forward to multiplayer and I'll be able to comment on it as soon as my roommate gets back. But as I said I am very impressed and it's a lot of fun, easily one of the best value games out there for the price you pay.

Great job Buzzjive, great first game I hope others will enjoy it as well.

THANK YOU!

I do think that if people try it out they'll like it. We did spend a good bit of time on the controls, which I think did turn out pretty good. I think you can tell even before the toss if you're going to get it in or not, which is a sign that we did something right.

Thanks again man. If that's the only positive comments I get about the game, I'll be satisfied. :-)

It is just a shame the Wii has no demo service ala 360. I know a lot of people would try this game on your word alone, but a flat out purchase is a bit harder to do.
