Official "Speed Racer" Movie Discussion sourceclick the source to watch the video where they actually show the mach 5 June 01 - After much hype and talk, the car from the Wachowski brothers' new film Speed Racer has been shown to the public in Potsdam, at a news conference with star attendance. But the latest film from the Wachowski brothers, best known for the 'Matrix' movies, won't be shot in Hollywood but in Potsdam, Germany at the Babelsberg film studios. And it is not an action movie but an hommage to the Japanese comic strip Speed Racer. The film is based on the classic 1960's Japanese animated series chronicling the aspirations of a young race car driver as he attempts to obtain glory, with the help of his family and the advanced car created by his father. Most of the actors they casted as the characters look really close to the cartoon, apart from Christina Ricci as Trixie. Well at least I hope she shows her boobies in the unrated DVD. I like how the guy who plays Racer X couldn't say that his character is actually Speed's brother. Duh. And I sure as hell hope Chim-Chim isn't CG neither. I can't wait to see how this turns out. ___________________ |

Oh come on. The Iron Man trailer uses the actual song "Iron Man" and we can't even get "Go Speed Racer Go" in a Speed Racer trailer? Two thumbs down. Also, the blue screen work looked really sloppy. ___________________ I can kill you whenever I damn well please. But not today.

Awesome as hell... except for the CG. Now I think I know what they're trying to pull off with the style. It's just that in some clips, the animation just looks too low-budget, like one of those crappy American-ized anime half/animation, half/cg cartoons. I'm hoping there's still time to work on those scenes. ___________________ |

What? I enjoyed the Matrix trilogy. It had some pretty awesome philosophical stuff in them, plus the action was pretty neat. The CGI used in those movies were fine. I like how they didn't try to make it look so close to real life. The same goes for Speed Racer, it gives it that Anime feel. |

See I don't think they were... otherwise they could have easily done it. If you look at the original Matrix they tried to do that and met it with some success. In the 2 sequels I think they took a different approach. Even if they were trying to get realism out of the CGI used. I still liked it. |

I think the CG was supposed to look "real." The world inside the Matrix was pretty heavily stylized though and clearly anime influenced. ___________________ I can kill you whenever I damn well please. But not today.

Well if you look at the world outside of the Matrix the CG for the robots was all very gritty and realistic looking. Inside of the Matrix is had a strong CG look to all the actions because it was a digital world. Perhaps that wasn't their intention but it could be interpreted that way. |
