Mother's Day Thread As much as I love all sections of humanity, from the vigorous toddlers who innocently frolic in playgrounds the world over, enjoying their youth in absolute obliviousness to the social issues which their parents must contend with on a daily basis, to the teachers who work tirelessly for small salaries in inner-city schools so that they may instill a sense of hope into the children of the economically disadvantaged public, or even the impassioned videogame fanatics who spend more time chatting about videogames and related matters on internet forums than they do actually playing videogames, I cannot possibly think of a single person I adore more than my sweet little mommy. Try as I might, I consistently fall short in my attempts to duly repay her for all of the sacrifices she has made for my sole benefit throughout my short time on this planet; even so, as long as I possess love in my heart, my mission to express my appreciation to my dear mother certainly will not end as I can never forget the following truth: I would most certainly be nothing without her love.It never ceases to amaze me how mothers in general can do so much for their children yet expect so little in return. For instance, when a woman becomes cognizant of the fact she is carrying a little person inside of her body, she will commonly amend many of her former habits and routines, such as discontinuing the use of drugs or altering her diet significantly, so that her baby will not suffer from any malformations or be limited in any of its faculties. Moreover, every now and then, the sacrifices a mother makes will extend farther still. My own mother was summarily expelled from her otherwise tranquil home when she became pregnant when she was only a teenager. My grandparents, who are very conservative by any standard, refused to harbor her as she had in their words, "disgraced the family" by having a child out of wedlock. Thus, all alone, as I kicked the walls of her uterus, my mother embarked on what had to be a daunting journey filled with uncertainty and trepidation. In the early days she relied upon the help of close friends sympathetic to her situation, however, shortly after I was born, she vowed that she would become self-sufficient and live independently, thus she worked determinedly to complete her education while simultaneously holding a job to support us both. To say that my mother was successful in attaining her goals would be a great understatement considering that the odds were certainly stacked against her. Not only did she put herself through school while working so that she could provide a better life for me, remarkably, she also found the time in her demanding schedule to guarantee that my childhood would be filled with memories of love and laughter. Indeed, I would be remiss in not stating that I am everlastingly indebted to my mother for being the kindhearted and diligent woman that she is. Ultimately, I only hope that I will turn out to be half the woman she is. With Mother's Day fast approaching, as a loving daughter, I am only too delighted that it is now in my hands to bring some well-deserved happiness and comfort to my mommy, which of course is precisely what I intend to do on the 13th. Taking into consideration the fact that I seldom if ever touch my money cache, I was easily able to purchase my mother a copy of Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov and set a reservation for the two of us at our favorite Italian restaurant. And while I have no doubt that these gifts will meet my mother's satisfaction, as she is certainly a most gentle and appreciative individual, I know in my heart that she understands that any such gifts that I bestow upon her ultimately pale in comparison to the love I have for her—a love which is as boundless as the sea. At any rate, please feel free to share details on how you plan to celebrate Mother's Day. And as usual, I hope all of you have a pleasant day. ___________________

I'd really like flowers for mother's day, but since my kids are like 4 & 5, that's not gonna happen anytime soon. Also, I realized the other day that I'm a pretty damn good mother and if nothing else, I will always have that. I'm trying. |

noone, that's who. noone will give a damn, just like noone would have given a damn if you graduated either. But on topic, I despise my mother and have not spoken nor really seen her in over a year, but coincidentally, she works about 200 feet away from where i work, infact right across the street. ___________________ ![]() Wii Code:0141-2992-0310-4549 Brawl Code:0602-5951-1825 |

No one. Two words. Sorry, it's just that you did it so many times and each time it was like a hot poker in my eye. On topic: I usually get my mom a card and a book, but the local good bookstore closed not too long ago so i don't know what to do. ___________________ "I didn't need molden plastic to improve my physique..." |

Speaking from a mother's point of view, I'd like to believe that each of us loves our children and does the best that we are able. For that, we would appreciate recognition, although we realize that appreciation is not always forthcoming. Kids and parents, by nature of our relationships, do not always see eye to eye. Parenting is not an easy job. I, for one, would like always to be best friends with our children first, and disciplinarian last, but that's not usually the order of life. Ironically parents are called upon to provide guidance that is in the best interest, and being best friends is not usually the best choice. That's why I appreciate that my children are grown and responsible, for the most part. I can be that friend now.... heh... but near adulthood is not the age for being best buds with Mom and Dad. In fact, it's weird. Oh well. Missed again. Someday, maybe. Someday. |

I know I havne't been around much of late... but does Ilona know that other verbose member? I got my mom Magnetica. She thinks the DS is all that, playing Clubhiuse Games, Animal Crossing, and (on the gba) Dr Mario/Puzzle Leage all the time. What's one more reason to fuel that addiction, I say. Maybe I'll spring for some yellow roses. Those are her favourites. |
