360 Gets Them Self a Playstation Franchise
AND IT'S MOTHER F-ING VITURA FIGHTA 5!

SEGA ANNOUNCES VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 FOR XBOX 360

Premiere Fighting Game Franchise Makes First Appearance on Microsoft's Next Generation Videogame Console

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN (December 21, 2006) – SEGA of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced that the highly anticipated arcade fighting game, Virtua Fighter™ 5, will make its way onto the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system. Virtua Fighter™ 5 is scheduled for release on Xbox 360™ in North America and in Europe during late summer 2007. The game will also be available for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system on February 20th, 2007 in North America and will be available in Europe simultaneously with the system's launch in March 2007.

"Those people lucky enough to have already played Virtua Fighter™ 5 will know that it's laid the foundations to become the clear benchmark for fighting games on all next generation consoles", said Matt Woodley, Creative Director, SEGA Publishing Europe Ltd. "Bringing Virtua Fighter™ 5 to the Xbox 360™ offers us a platform with power to handle the astonishing visuals, the complex and varied fighting styles of all the customisable characters and will undoubtedly put Virtua Fighter™ 5 into the hands of a gaming audience craving for a highly polished and credible fighting game."

Virtua Fighter™ 5 features beautifully detailed stages from around the world where players face off in fast-moving martial arts battles against one of 17 characters. Two lively new characters join the elite group of fighters, adding two new unique fighting styles for players to try and master. With more skill and strategy than ever before, players are also given the opportunity to learn and employ the new "Offensive Move" technique to take down their opponents from different angles, adding a new dimension to the game and something for both new and old fans to master. Virtua Fighter™ 5 also includes the ability to customise characters by selecting from four base costumes and a wide range of unlockable accessories and earnable items. As players win more tournaments they will not only earn costumes and accessories, but also prizes and in-game money that will allow them to buy items from the in-game shop.

"The Virtua Fighter™ series from SEGA has one of the most prestigious histories in video games," said Jeff Bell, corporate vice president of global marketing for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. "It's a franchise that has grown an army of loyal fans both in arcades and on consoles worldwide, and is consistently rated extremely high by the media. Fighting game fans have been hungry for Virtua Fighter™ 5 and we can now proudly deliver this game with SEGA to Xbox 360 gamers around the world."

Developed by the highly renowned Tokyo based development team, AM R&D Development No.2, Virtua Fighter™ 5 for the Xbox 360™ will be available across Europe and North America during late summer 2007.

It seems like every franchise Sony once premiered is slipping just out of their exclusive reach.

Right, sony franchise... OK. There was one game on the PS2 and it was number 4.

.......You....hurt my brain.....

How is it a Sony franchise? It started on Sega Saturn, and each one went continued on a Sega system or arcade. Hell, even Shenmue was Dreamcast and the 2 was on the X-box.

....Ok, my brain hurts less now...

I'd say because when Sega went bankrupt they auctioned off all their big franchises. Sony got their hands on Virtua Fighter and got exclusivity on the 4th incarnation and Evolution. The fact that the franchise is now heading to the Xbox 360 means that Sony has lost exclusivity, therefore they've lost a franchise. Makes sense, no?

Good.

Too bad I don't like Virtua Fighter. It's like fighting in mashed potatoes. Maybe Tekken will be the next one to make a move...

Whatever... 360 needs to get Final Fantasy XIII, Devil May Cry 4, and Metal Gear Solid 4... then Playstation 3 will pretty much be useless to me.

I'll take a new ninja gaiden to fill that DMC void, a new splinter cell to fill that MGS 4(which is going to come to the 360 hopefully), and a couple RPGS to fill that FF13 void.

But why fill the void? When they can just jump ship like all the other franchises.

Come on Capcom, Konami, and Square... Do it, do it for the sake of people who don't want to spend 500+ on a console.

If PS3 sales don't pick up soon in America, you'll see 13 on 360. Square can't afford to sell just to Japan with how much 13 will cost. Then PS3 will be pretty much useless. MGS isn't as big a deal as it used to be since Splinter Cell stole it's thunder...and I don't know anyone that actually likes DMC...and it'll probably come anyway.

I can picture Devil May Cry 4 jumping on the 360 bandwagon before I can picture either MGS or FF doing so, but FF is the least likely of those three.

I'm glad this is happening - I bought a PS2 because I wanted this game so badly, and it turns out that it won't work properly for me (I got a defunct copy that doesn't save properly). I look forward to this release, because I imagine playing online (ranked please - I don't want to play against a bunch of creepy nerds who master this game because they have nothing else to do) being an incredible experience.

So, if Tekken comes a board, with the next Soul Calibur and a possible addition to Street Fighter, can we officially call Microsoft's Xbox 360 the king of fighting games? I know that is a lot of ifs...but speaking hypothetically.

Basically, Tekken could convince me to buy a console - I had way too much fun with Tekken 5.

Don't expect online outta VF5. The developers don't want any lag to interfere with the fighting, since fractions of a second matter in it.

That reasoning is good and logical, but it still breaks my heart. Maybe Microsoft will be able to push them towards it, as Xbox Live is such a big portion of Microsoft's publicity policy. I agree, delays would suck in VF5, but I would still want to go online. I'm personally not good enough for a delay to affect me that much...

Capcom have shown great support for the X360 so anything is possible there.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see MGS show up on the X360.

But solid Square-Enix support just seems out of the question this generation. Mistwalker will fill the void for JRPG fans, like DayLahs alluded too in his post.

Virtua Fighter is the king of Fighters. I played VF5 as often as I could in Japan the last month. It isn't a giant leap forward in gameplay, no huge changes other than the incredible graphics engine. It is simply shocking. Tekken 5 isn't in the same league.

Basically, if you've played the other games you just fit right in, and start to find the fine tuning VF5 has added. Now if they could just balance Jacky in revision B.

This sealed the deal. Xbox 360 for me. Getting one tonight, why not? I've got the HDTV and now my personal killer app is on the way!

They could easily make it online without any delays. They did it with DOA4 and Street Fighter. There are only 2 people fighting it can't be that hard to make good netcode, it isn't like VF5 is super fast either.

I have played DOA4 on Live and experienced lag. I have heard multiple complaints about Street Fighter not being so hot either.

Even if they can make awesome netcode for the game... it still comes down to the actual home connection, which could **** up in many different ways.
