Avatar: The Last Airbender info & Pics courtesy of ignPublishing giant THQ announced earlier in the month that it was in development with Avatar: The Last Airbender for Nintendo's new Wii console. The title is scheduled to ship with the launch of the system this fall, the company said. Some older players have a tendency to assume that just because this effort comes as a result of a collaboration between THQ and kids network Nickelodeon that it is strictly for younger gamers. But this isn't exactly the case. Intrigued by the premise, IGN Wii popped over to the iTunes music store and downloaded several episodes of Avatar. As it turns out, the show is surprisingly entertaining - and not just for kids. The Last Airbender Wii title is based on the popular cartoon of the same name. In another age, the world is divided into four nations, including Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. Each nation houses practitioners of bending, or the art of manipulating the four elements. Waterbenders, Firebenders, Earthbenders and, naturally, Airbenders. There is only one individual - the Avatar - who can harness the power of all elements. It is written that he will save the world. The problem is that the Avatar has long been absent. He was last seen more than a hundred years ago, at the start of a war waged by the greedy Firebenders. Now, in present day, the Firebenders have continued to battle against the other regions and are on the verge of defeating the opposition. But a young Waterbender named Katara and her rebellious brother Sokka may have found the Avatar at last. The show itself is pretty good. Entertaining, even. The art is impressively laid down and varied. The characters themselves are likeable and easy to root for. Plus, the bending powers are captivatingly implemented. Some of these heroes soar through the air because they can manipulate the wind. Others can make water bend to their will. This is clearly a cartoon aimed at younger viewers, but like any good series - and forgive us for dating ourselves, but He-Man comes to mind - older audiences will find themselves enjoying themselves, too. As a game, Avatar: The Last Airbender delivers a combination of third-person actioning and adventuring, according to THQ. It's being developed by the company's Studio Australia, which is best known for SpongeBob SquarePants: Lights, Camera, Pants! Gamers play as the popular characters from the show, including Aang, Katara, Haru and Sokka. Each character can control unique elements, which must be manipulated throughout the adventure to defeat enemies and solve environmental puzzles. In addition, the title will boast a martial arts fighting system of some kind. Unfortunately, THQ is currently unable to tell us how the Wii version of Avatar will play, but it will make use of the revolutionary controller and the nunchuck unit in some fashion. We've included two in-game screenshots of Avatar in today's quickie preview. These screens are platform agnostic. The title is coming to GCN, PS2, GBA, DS, PSP and Wii this fall. We'll have much more on the title in the coming weeks and months. Stay tuned. |

Lols, that looks like a Dreacast game it's so bad. It better not be on the Wii, the graphics shame the system. ___________________ Investors Business Daily on Obama "death panel":

At least they were a step above and beyond "Fairy GodParents" and the other stupid crap Nick and other networks produce now, I watch these shows with my little brother sometimes and walk away feeling stupid. |

After interning for Nicktoons, I can safely say the Spongebob and Oddparents type stuff that Nick puts out does fantastic business. While us older types love JLU and the other CN stuff, Nick is genius. Avatar and Danny Phantom are watered down compared to their CN equivalents, but because of that parents don't mind buying merch. Anyways, yay for third party support, even if I'm not going to buy it. Somebody will. |

Yay! I love this show. Just hope it uses 2 Revmotes since "bending" uses both hands. ___________________

I didn't expect any better from THQ. I'm still expressing my opinion that this looks like crap! ___________________ Now playing No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle Endless Ocean 2: Adventures of the Deep |

It's a real shame because you could make a great Avatar game with Wii. Too bad it's some garbage multiplatform thing being rushed out between generations by THQ. |
