RHCP double-album "Stadium Arcadium", May 8th?
Source: Ultimate-Guitar News

Ultimate-Guitar

"It's heavy, but it's emotionally heavy with lots of beautiful melodies," Anthony Kiedis told Q magazine this month. Red Hot Chili Peppers' new record, Stadium Arcadium, is rumored to be released around March or April, though with several online release calendars citing it to be May 8th in the UK and May 9th in the USA.

"We all contributed equally," Kiedis said. "That hasn't always been the case in the past." Hardcore fans may remember guitarist John Frusciante was pursuing melodies, synths, and new ways of making chord progressions before their last album (which had a mixed reception between both critiques and fans), By The Way.

Anthony Kiedis also told NME magazine that their next single would be "Dani California", taking the character from the song By the way. NME spelt it "Danni", but Anthony spelt it "Dani" with the original song; but either its mostly a mundane detail. This single will be about the character's downfall, and could be expected to be released before the next album.

The Peppers also have a DVD slated for January 31st, 2006 on amazon.co.uk's and play.com's release calendars, entitled "Red Hot Chili Peppers: Woodstock And Beyond". Play.com's description tells us it will be a DVD about their performance with past-RHCP guitarist Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction, Camp Freddy) at Woodstock 94, not current gutiarist John Frusciante's at 99. "And beyond" may also come into play.

In both Q and NME articles, Anthony spills about how they originally wanted to release 3 albums; but then realized that the 3rd would come out almost 2 years from the first and it wouldn't be as worthwhile. Stadium Arcadium will feature 25 songs (neither of the new songs from Live at Hyde Park will be on). Several of the new songs are circulating in bootleg circles, notably Tell Me Baby, Desecration Smile, Ready Made, and For The 21st Century.

They got so big because recently everybody seems to like them, including parents etc.. With 'Californication' and 'By The Way' the Chili Peppers reached a whole new audience that would probably be horrified if you played them some of the tracks from Blood Sugar Sex Magic or any of the earlier albums.

I've always liked the Chili Peppers, and it was one of the bands that when I was younger introduced me to lots of other rock bands. But, like most true RHCP fans, I think the new albums can not compare to the classic earlier albums..and I for one am not sure if they can ever reach the standard that they set with Blood Sugar Sex Magic, which in my opinion, is one of the best albums ever made..well, it's in my top 10 anyway.

So, yeah, of course, i'm looking forward to this new album, but I don't know if RHCP have got it in them anymore to be as fresh or as exciting as they used to be.

Engh, my favourite Chili's album is Uplift Mofo Party Plan. It's more fun than any of their other records. One Hot Minute is also the shiznit, even though they won't admit it themselves.

And they suck live. They suck a lot live.

New Red Hot Chili Peppers set 'emotionally heavy'
5 Jan 2006

The band reveal more details on their forthcoming double album.

Further details have emerged on "Stadium Arcadium", the forthcoming double-CD from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Set for release late April, the double album, which frontman Anthony Keidis has described as 'heavy', is currently being completed in California with long-time producer Rick Rubin.

Several track titles have emerged; 'Dani California', 'Hard to Concentrate', Desecration Smile', 'Charlie', 'Snow', and according to reports, the band will head out on an extensive world tour, starting with North American dates, shortly after the album's release.

"Arcadium" follows 2002's critically-acclaimed "By The Way" and Keidis described the new set to Q Magazine as "heavy, but it's emotionally heavy with lots of beautiful melodies."

Your fury has been made very clear through your clever use of Emoticons. Thank you.

I've listened to the RHCP since I was three (my mom turned down the volume on the curse words, and I wasnt even allowed to hear Sir Phycho Sexy), so I probably didnt have a choice but to like them. As much as I liked By the Way and Californication when they came out, I rarely go back them except for a few songs (This Velvet Glove, Tear). They just didnt have the appeal of Blood Sugar Sex Magic and the albums leading up to it.

I dont think RHCP can go back and manage to top what was Blood Sugar Sex Magic, but whatever they put out will still manage to be better then 90% of whats on the market. In my opinion.

Also, while I havent seen them Live, they're live CD's are quite good. Half the reason RHCP got so big in California was because there Live shows blew everything out of the water during there time. I couldnt tell if you thats changed now.

I love Sir Pyscho Sexy so much, it's pretty hardcore lol Good luck finding anything like this on the new album..

I got stopped by a lady cop
In my automobile
She said get out and spead your legs
And then she tried to cop a feel
That cop she was all dressed in blue
Was she pretty? Boy I'm tellin' you
She stuck my butt with her big black stick
I said "what's up?" now suck my dick
Like a ram getting ready to jam the lamb
She whimpered just a little when she felt my hand
On her crotch so very warm
I could feel her getting wet through her uniform
Proppin' her up on the black and white
Unzipped and slipped "ooo that's tight"
I swatted her like no swat team can
Turned a cherry pie right into jam

I love By The Way. For a start, it's much more similar to the rest of my music taste, but there were some not-so-good songs on BTW and Californication (Universally Speaking, Cabron, Emmit Remmus). Flipside of those was Don't Forget Me (my favourite Chili's song, probably).

Edit: and Road Trippin'.

One Hot Minute was pretty mediocre in my opinion as well. I really kind of dug the new sound in the first couple songs. I loved the drumming in Warped and the introspective poetic intro to Deep Kick. Aeroplane, My Friends, and to a lesser extent, Tearjerker and Walkabout were good also.

But, for the most part, it didnt have the mass appeal that the other albums have. RHCP can get experimental at times, but in this case, the experiments hurt to listen to. (Examples: Crying, anquished baby in One Big Mob, unnessacary and distracting female harmony in Falling Into Grace and the Godawful second half of Transcending.)

Each retail site will get a different version of the album with a different "bonus song". Local, small record stores will get one, iTunes will get one, Wal Mart will get one, etc.

"We're going to try and do that with the independent record stores across America, and for all the monster chains," he said. "We'll service everybody with a different bonus track, because we have them."

A bit annoying, but as per usual they'll be on Limewire. Has anyone downloaded some of the leaked tracks yet? I've got 'Ready Made' and 'Desecration Smile' - they're ok, but that's it. Desecration smile is the better of the two - it's worth a download.

Cursive how would you stack these new leaks with the leaks (kind of) from the live album: Leverage of Space and Rolling Sly Stone? I personally liked both of them, (Sly Stone a little better) so If there up to par with those I'll be satisfied.

Regardless I'll get them when I get home and finally install Limewire on my new compy.

As I say, i've only heard Desecration Smile and Ready Made, but from what I can tell they seem to be very similar in their style and quality to those tracks you mentioned that were on the Live in Hyde Park album (incidentally, I was there, it was awesome Big Grin ). I preferred Rolling Sly Stone to Leverage of Space, but in the original post it says that those tracks aren't gonna be on Stadium Arcadium anyway which is a bit of a shame.

So, yeah you'll probably be happy with the new album I guess Smile

Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Stadium Arcadium," a 28-Song Double CD, to Be Released May 9
First Single, "Dani California," Debuts Worldwide April 3

By: Marketwire
Mar. 27, 2006 06:03 PM

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 03/27/06 -- The Red Hot Chili Peppers will unleash a two-CD set, "Stadium Arcadium" (Warner Bros.), on May 9, 2006. The collection will contain 28 songs divided between two discs, one dubbed "Jupiter" and the other "Mars."

"It's a double dose from a band at the top of its game," reported the Los Angeles Times. Rolling Stone called "Stadium Arcadium" "most anticipated," while the U.K.'s Q predicted it would be "the biggest album of 2006 -- and the most ambitious."

Singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Michael "Flea" Balzary, guitarist John Frusciante and drummer Chad Smith actually wrote 38 songs, recording all of them with producer Rick Rubin in the same house in the Hollywood Hills where they recorded 1991's groundbreaking, multi-platinum "BloodSugarSexMagik."

"We set out to write 13 songs," says Kiedis. "But as has been the case every time we've tried to do that, we ended up with 30-some-odd songs. The difference this time was we ended up liking all of those songs and finishing all of those songs, and it actually became a very difficult process to even whittle it down to 28."

"Every album we do, we try to have a concept and a sense of direction," Frusciante explains. "The most important idea for this album was movement." Smith elaborates, "Something new is constantly being introduced, in every chorus or verse, whether it's a backing vocal or a guitar part, a different rhythm or an unexpected style."

"The chemistry was in better order than in a long time," Kiedis told Spin earlier this year. "Everyone is frighteningly happy at the moment." Although he says he's again exploring "the dark and nefarious side of Los Angeles" in his lyrics, he clarifies, "but not in a judgmental sense," venturing, "It's all about the joy of dysfunction."

The lead single, "Dani California," will debut worldwide on April 3. It will be supported by a video directed by Tony Kaye ("American History X") portraying a history of rock 'n' roll. The video will debut in the U.S. on MTV April 4 at 11:00 p.m.; in the U.K. on Channel 4 April 5 at 11:00 p.m.; and throughout the rest of the world on April 6.

"Stadium Arcadium's" "Jupiter" CD track listing comprises: "Dani California," "Snow (Hey Oh)," "Charlie," "Stadium Arcadium," "Hump de Bump," "She's Only 18," "Slow Cheetah," "Torture Me," "Strip My Mind," "Especially in Michigan," "Warlocks," "C'mon Girl," "Wet Sand" and "Hey."

"Stadium Arcadium's" "Mars" CD track listing comprises: "Desecration Smile," "Tell Me Baby," "Hard to Concentrate," "21st Century," "She Looks to Me," "Readymade," "If," "Make You Feel Better," "Animal Bar," "So Much I," "Storm in a Teacup," "We Believe," "Turn It Again" and "Death of a Martian."

"Stadium Arcadium" will also be available in a limited-edition black box that includes the 28-song, two-CD set, plus a DVD with the "Dani California" video and behind-the-scenes "making of the video" footage; a one-hour band interview; a 28-page booklet; original artwork by the band; and "special space-age discoveries."

Kiedis says of the double album's title: "I hope it means something different to everyone, but to me, in the chorus of the song 'Stadium Arcadium,' I get the feeling of being off in the wilderness with a large group of people creating a huge light, playing music for those people and reflecting the love that's going on between us and them."

"I think we're aware that we're all vehicles of something much bigger than ourselves," Flea allows. "And we also know it's up to us to do the footwork to get in a position to receive all this energy flying around. Spirituality can be a pretty vague term, but each of us in our own way is interested in looking beyond what's directly in front of our face."

"Stadium Arcadium" is the ninth album from the Chili Peppers and the first since 2002's "By the Way," which debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200. All told, the band has sold more than 50 million albums, logged seven multiplatinum CDs and scored eight #1 Modern Rock hits.

I need to know how much to set aside for the box-set, especially considering £40 for my gig ticket and then probably £30 for gig merchandise.

Incidentally, has anyone else heard the 30 second clip of Dani California on the album teaser on the Chilis' site? Sounds pretty damn good.

EDIT: Just heard a live version of 'Tell Me Baby' as well, and that's awesome too. It looks like some of the tracks are going to be well more funky than most of the songs off 'By The Way'. Which in my opinion, can only be a good thing Big Grin

The song (Limewire is your friend Sneaky ) I'm definitely going to buy the album when it comes out anyway, obviously it's just interesting to hear what it's gonna be like. Just got the actual song called 'Stadium Arcadium' as well, which is an awesome instrumental that is quintessentially Frusciante.

From the few tracks I've heard, the album is shaping up to be not as much of a disappointment as I thought it would be.

Californication was the song(and album) that got me into chili peppers. It still is my favourite album, but the older stuff is a lot better than "By the way".

Glad to hear a new CD is coming, I'll be sure to purchase it(unlike some people here) in May(has that been confirmed at all?).

That song is pretty badass...I like RHCP, but i'm a little cautious when it comes to them. I dated a girl a couple of years ago that was obsessed with RHCP, so much so, that I had to dump her for her unnatural obsession with Anthony Kiedis and the rest of that band...

Just letting people know 'Stadium Arcadium' has just been leaked - from what i've read, it seems to have got quite a lacklustre response so far Frown However, I'll add my thoughts on it after it's finished d/loading.

And before anyone starts to bitch, yes i'm going to buy it when it actually comes out.
