World of Mana DS Confirmed

World of Mana does exist! Following a tease early last year, all went quiet on Square Enix's secret Seiken Densetsu (the Japanese name for the Mana series) revival project. Until late last year, that is, when the company revealed that it was working on a new Mana game for the DS. All went quiet again until a few weeks back when it was revealed that a mysterious project called "World of Mana" would be appearing in trailer form at the Square Enix Party 2005, a Japanese event showcasing Square Enix's biggest titles in playable form.

That event kicked off today, and IGN got the chance to view the World of Mana trailer. The short, CG trailer starts off with a scene of birds seemingly flying through a forest. As the trailer progresses, a symphonic score slowly growing in the background, the forest turns out to be the top of a massive tree. Hundreds or maybe thousands of birds are swarming this tree, which shoots up from a surrounding forest like a skyscraper amongst single story houses.
The tree in the trailer is the Mana Tree, and it seems to serve as the center piece of World of Mana. The trailer ends with "A grand tale that begins with the Mana Tree will unravel before you."

Square Enix's press materials provides further hints on the nature of World of Mana:

"The Legend Lives On. Epic new tails in the Mana series are in the midst of being spun. From past to present, and on to the future, the Mana series continues to evolve. Glimpse the many facets of the World of Mana through a multitude of platforms -- glimpses that will soon unfold into an unforgettable fantasy experience. The day you can next step into the world of Mana is drawing near."

Elsewhere, IGN was able to learn that World of Mana will center on the Mana Tree and the Holy Sword (the "Seiken" of the Japanese title). The project hopes to feature fresh, soft backgrounds, personable characters and a new story surrounding the Mana Tree. Rather than just one title, we can look forward to multiple titles across multiple genres and on multiple platforms.

Sadly, we're still none-the-wiser to what form World of Mana will take. However, with the promise of new developments in the project happening soon, we shouldn't have to wait too long to hear more.

Yes

I like the support that Square Enix has been giving to Nintendo's handheld platforms, and seeing them say that the Mana series will come to a multitude of platforms gives me hope that it'll come to Revolution too.

There is absolutely no confirmation that it is for the Nintendo DS whatsoever. No platforms have been announced.

Granted, they previously said a Mana game would show up for the DS, but until someone shows a screenshot or goes on record to say that The World of Mana is officially on this machine, nothing is confirmed.

In the Square Enix Party 2005 homepage, Square Enix revealed that World of Mana will be a PlayStation 2 title, and it will not be an online RPG as speculated.

Oh, so it has PS2 listed next to it as the platform, huh? How about a ****ing link, douchebag. That would be awesome instead of three posts full of BULL**** with no tangible evidence.

IGN has no platforms listed. None of the other major sites have any platforms listed. In the freaking release it says multiple platforms but never confirms a single one.

Although a new title hasn't been released for nearly five years now, the company announced at E3 that they are reviving the series with the launch of a new project, named "The World of Mana." Square Enix didn't reveal details on the project back then, aside from a "polymorphic content strategy" that will be used in bringing it to its audience. This refers to a method of taking an original concept and developing it simultaneously across multiple media, including novelizations, film, games, and other products, such as manga.

The answer is pretty ****ing obvious: Because that heading isn't for PlayStation 2, it's a heading for the SQUARE-ENIX PARTY.

Just so you know, the makers of the Mana series no longer work for Squaresoft. They left and formed a company called Brownie Brown, which is funded by Nintendo, making them second party. They were the ones responsible for the ****ty Mana remake on GBA.

BREAKING: Square-Enix has announced that their upcoming RPG title will be exclusive to both the Playstation 2 and the Nintendo DS.
Square-Enix has recently confirmed that their upcoming World of Mana title would be developed for multiple gaming systems. Today, the company revealed that the game will be exclusive to both the Nintendo DS and the Playstation 2.

Details regarding the nature of the title have yet to be made available. Square has shown a trailer for the PS2 version of the title, but hasn't revealed any details about the DS version. However, it is expected that the DS iteration of the game will be very different than the PS2 version.

Be sure to stick with DS Advanced for continued coverage of this upcoming story.

I dont know how reliable DS Advanced is, but it seems logical to me. Most Square Enix games come to the PS2 anyway, and given the huge sucess the DS has become in Japan, I would imagine that they might wanna support that over the PSP. (Maybe)

I'd still wait for some confirmation from a bigger news site though.
