Maybe because it's a remake of a Famicom game, at least I think that's what this game is, judging by the title.

Hasn't the series always been known as "Famicom Wars"' in Japan?

Thanks graphics whore, I'll let them know you wont play an awesomely fun game because it's not up to your "standards of graphical prowess".

Good one.

Advance Wars 1 and 2 were released in Japan as Advance Wars 1 and 2, if my memory serves me right.

Not when there's Super Famicom Wars, Gameboy Wars...and Advance Wars. As for the GCN version being titled Advance Wars, well.

Because no one would know what Famicom is here in the U.S.

looks interesting, although I wasnt much of a fan of AW2(I traded it in frustration of its difficulty),its good to see that Olaf and Eagle are back though and that there's a new shall I say Blackhole? or Blackhole and another evil force,it looks like theres new jets and ships, this game might rekindle my interest of the AW series

From Johnnyram @ GAF:

Potential new info gleaned from these pages:
- Official Japanese title seems to be "Famicom Wars DS: Battle of Omega Land".
- Dual screens are used for tag battles, with one CO fighting on each screen. You seem to be able to switch between screens when you wish, depending on your tactical needs.
- Bottom screen is displayed at a weird angle for no apparent reason, as you can't see extra land.
- When you're not playing tag, the top screen is used for info, like missile countdown, unit info, land data etc, and will be displayed continuously while you are moving units. Bottom screen displays map and battles.
- COs have a TAG stat to show how well they work with other COs.
- New units include aircraft carrier and stealth fighter.
- Mode select screen shows: Campaign, trial, free battle, survival and combat, plus the number of medals collected so far.
- Due out this year for 4800 yen (sometime this summer would be nice!)

Some of those screens have an AW DS background, some a Famicom Wars: Battle of Omega Land bg, and we've previously seen screens with Advance Wars 3 written in the back. Can't IS choose a final name already?

Strange name.

Doesn't look different... AT ALL from the GBA versions. If its online, then all is forgiven.

edit: Tag over two screens sounds good too.

Wow, you are out of the loop buddy.

I'm still ever-so-slightly disappointed that the graphics havn't received an upgrade. But in all honesty, it's probably better that way. It means they're concentrating on making the gameplay more awesome than our wildest dreams could speculate.

And I definitely see some new types of units.

Can I get a "hells yeah" for the Aircraft Carrier! Dance

The new units looks swish. One hopes that they have more significance than the Neotanks.

Are you serious? The Neotanks were friggin indestructable. Although they didn't have a large increase in firepower.. but I don't think that was the point. Neo's were the only major defense on the ground.

I just picked up AW2 for $10 last month and it's reminding me of how freaking addictive this series is. I can't wait for the DS version. I can't imagine a turn based game not having an online mode, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Yes, it's very addictive, but it should also remind you how little the graphics have changed since AW2. Disgust

But if this game is online, then they SERIOUSLY need to implement a time limit (that you choose yourself obviously), on turns. Because without that, you could be sitting there for ten minutes not doing anything because the dude you're playing is on the can.

I've played urban squall a bit (it's like a flash version of advance wars), on the internet, and the time limit really works wonders. If Advance Wars doesn't have one I'm not sure I'll be able to play it online. I can also see this game having seriously issues with people just quitting before you capture their hq.

I just hate multiplayer in turn based games, mainly for the reason meloche19 mentioned. I remember nearly falling asleep playing the Heroes series online.

The time limit thing could partially solve the problem though, I can't remember if Heroes had one. Actually, I'm not even sure it was Heroes (perhaps was it Master of Magic, I don't even remember if that had modem multiplayer either)...
