First Revolution Hardware Pic?

I'm the one that posted that pic of the Revolution that everyone is fighting over right now. Well I wrote down some of the things you people were saying and I went and asked my source (we'll call him Mario lol) about it.

1. The start up screen looks like crap

Mario's Response: That was a prototype/development system. Which means it's still being worked on. Which means there are a lot of things that will change including that start up screen. Gamecube, N64, and all other Nintendo systems go through similiar processes.

2. It's so huge!

Mario's Response: It's smaller than the Gamecube in that picture! That's a 17 inch display in the background. It's just a close up shot.

3. Nintendo wouldn't let you take a picture of that!

Mario's Response: Obviously. They didn't let me. I took it without permission. Although it doesn't really matter because it doesn't divulge any information anyway.

4. That logo is ugly/ that start up screen is stupid/ Nintendo wouldn't use that start up screen/ why is there info about ram and harddrive and core voltage/why is it being displayed on a computer monitor?

Mario's Response: Two words: development system. You people have no clue how a system is developed. It's not like we manufacture parts and then put it together. We piece things together, sometimes from left over parts. We use breadboards sometimes. A majority of the initial work is done on computers. Once the system is actually blue printed we make mock up systems which work nothing like the final production models. For example the Gamecube development system used cartridges! Programs were dumped from computers onto carts so that we didn't have to burn CD's or DVD's constantly. So what that all means is this system is radically different than the production model or even the preproduction model.

Things like RAM and core voltage are displayed because that's vital information to know. A lot of things go wrong during testing. CPU temperatures sky rocket. Harddrives crash. RAM fails. That's why it's displayed on screen, it's vital info. It actually stays on screen the whole time, not just start up. The logo is just a splash screen some tech made. Most likely that won't even be the name of the final system.

It's on a computer monitor because all systems are tested this way. Like I said we don't manufacture parts then assemble a mock up. We use existing hardware. So we use a type of video card. Plus the system is connected to a workstation throughout most of the testing.

5. It's running hot/boiling

Mario's Response: It sure is. We were having heat issues. That temperature is still within normal parameters. The case was also partially disassembled. The case aids in air flow. Without it air can't circulate like it should.

6. What's with all the Pepsi?

Mario's Response: We like Pepsi. Actually Nintendo and Pepsi will be doing some promotions in Japan and also some more this summer in the US. The US promotion was going to run this month in the US but Pepsi had a prior deal with Apple and iTunes, so Nintendo decided to postpone it until summer. Pepsi sent all Nintendo offices cases of free soda.

So there you go everyone.

From the Nintendo.com forums.

Kudos to nthdimension at MoDojo who I copied this from. Remember, I'm just the messenger. And no, I have no comment right now.

Well, if you're going to fake something, this is how you do it. It's possible this is real, but there's no way to prove or disprove it, since the final design and logo will be different.

Looks like it's in a partially disassembled black GC case. And the top part reminds me of the Lexar Secure JumpDrives, what with the black and silver color-scheme.

I actually believe it, there's no way the Revolution is finished, and even if it is true that's no where near what the Revolution will look like. And the screen most likely won't be like that. So really it's not revealing much other than a prototype. I don't see why not to believe it.

Blue LED + the fact it says "system startup" on it which no real professional would write in huge letters across the screen because its blatantly obvious its the system startup because you just turned the stupid machine on

firstly we all know stupid computer geeks wank over blue LEDs and they shove them on every fake console mockup. These just scream "I'm a stupid geek who has no taste and thinks turning the sliders up to max on everything = beautiful" no one with any real taste thinks huge **** off blue LEDs that blind you look remotely nice.

Secondly they've gone the old logic "well it was a cube so next we'll have a sphere" with the logo sorry too predictable.

Thirdly the font nintendo is written in is way too different from the real logo, it would confuse the brand, look at the nintendo on the gamecube its extremely similar to the real logo just remove the ring and increase the kerning.

Instead of outright shooting it down without a thought, lets find reasons WHY its not real/a really really bad imitation.

For me, the USB ports raise serious questions. Xbox is the only console I know of that directly uses USB protocol for its controllers, and that's just because Microsoft is incapable of developing anything original. I can't imagine even an early Revolution model with chipset support for standard USB, even as a temporary workaround for controllers - its just so un-Nintendo for them to support such an open protocol. Then again, if there is any truth to HD-DVD and internal hard drives, it's certainly possible they intend to include USB compatibility (Nintendo releasing a geek/modder's dream machine? Stranger things have happened I guess... wait, no they haven't!)

I wish we had a better shot of the internal configuration so we'd know if its just a cheap pile of computer parts displaying a fake Revolution screen, but right now all weve got is the backside of that unidentifiable board and the 4 USB ports in a plastic shell... and if the Revolution is indeed using USB protocol its understandable for them to have something like that on there in an early phase.

Nintendo DS was a codename too. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

As for the USB ports, consoles in development are nothing but a PC at first. Eventually they become a console so the system could be using USB for now. Also the I have seen dev systems say dumber things than "System startup", that does not prove that is is fake.

I have no idea if it is real or not, I really don't care, E3 is close enough, we will know soon.

I know for certain that is a fake. That logo is the worst thing I've seen. That's no good even for a placeholder. That guy must've grabbed that picture of a sphere he found using Google and slapped 'Nintendo Revolution' on top of it with a random free font. It's just ridiculous. And everything this supposed 'Mario' guy said meanf nothing. The Pepsi stuff was simply about the NDS promotion in Japan, he just put one and one together and made that up.

The pic is crap, and what the guy says is bull****. Simple as that.

Pretty flawed, but I won't say its true or untrue of course.

"Mario" fails to remember the only solid stat-related announcement ever from Nintendo was that the VGA port was going to be included.

/ not true at all, they use completely different architecture than pcs for starters (bar xbox *cough*spreadsheetmachine) some may have used pcs for proof of concept demos but when you actually develop a console you do just that you dont make a pc then turn it in to a console. Thats like taking a blender then developing it in to an oven. This is why the xbox is such a badly designed console, they took a machine running an architecture designed for spreadsheets and word processing then shoved it in a console, x86 is littered with legacy junk and bottlenecks its an utterly pathetic excuse for a platform let alone a games machine and is most likely the reason for such bad frame rates in xbox games.

This is a case of basic knowledge of 1 computing system = "I KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT COMPUTERS" thus they apply it to everything else and come off looking total morons, same sort of people who say "well ps2s(or whatevers) processor is only so many mhz my dads brothers old computer 8 years ago was that"

Its a temporary start up screen with a development console. Not the real thing.
