Flying Wiimotes Suck

Posted November 27th 2006 by Curtis Brunet.

When initially hearing the stories about Wiimotes breaking televisions, I must admit, I was skeptical. What kind of retarded monkeys were using these Wiimotes, swinging them so violently and letting go of them that they were flying through the air and destroying property. People were blowing them through televisions, through windows, and even through lamps and laptops.

Morons, I would mutter quietly.

Well, the jig is up:

My busted wrist strap and the naked Wiimote.

About 4 inches from my TV and almost right through my wall had it not bounced off my tv stand first. Reinforce those wrist straps people

How sweat were your palms?

Quite sweaty. You can really get into at times after playing Wii Sports and drinking for like 6 hours, :P

Hmm... Don't drink and Wii! Speaking of reinforcing the straps, anybody have any suggestions on how they could do that? It seems to me the piece of string that attaches the remote to the actual strap is attached within inside the inner plastic casing where the strap forms a loop.

I think I'm going to start emailing some contacts at Nintendo about it and see what I get back.

Jeez... unbelievable. Still... did you accidentily let go of the wii-mote, or does it just get THAT slippery?

Did it break the first time you let go of the controller? Because if so is it alright if I suggest the wrist strap is entirely pointless?

Hands got really slippery, and yes, it was the first time. I need to find a way to reinforce that tiny little part.

Well... I guess they just took a normal kind of wrist-strap, and they made their mistake right there. Because normally, the devices you wear with a wrist strap are not swung around like tennis rackets or baseball bats, so the straps are strong enough. I guess they never figured this kind of thing could happen to people with sweaty palms... (which is really stupid, I must admit)

Huh...I've had the controller slip out my hand while playing baseball once, but the wrist strap held. That sucks though, that it can't take much punishment.

I get sweaty palms,.. but I've never had a controller slip from my grasp.. Perhaps I will keep an eye open for some 1st/3rd party extra enforced wrist strap products. If not for myself, then for my friends & other people that I will allow to play my wii...
