That Makes Three
Posted March 9th 2006 by Stephanie DeSiena.
Hello!
Today is my birthday, and as a birthday gift from me to you, I have decided to update my N-Blog. Or, should I call it, my "N-Sight"? It's full of n-sightment! I don't think I'm doing this right.
A COMPREHENSIVE WEB-BLOG UPDATE
Maybe it's actually a bit less comprehensive than I'm pegging it to be. I typed the word "peggit" there originally, as a combination of "peg" and "it". Like digit, or bit! I learned about those words in my Computer Science class! Science!
So, yeah, birthdays. In relation to the age of the normal N-Philes staff, I am about mid-range. Average. I'm more normal than everyone else on staff. Normeler. It's interesting! Actually, I may very well be among the youngest! Luckily, I'm over the age of 18. I am so sick of reading fansites that have larger reader-bases than this one with contributors younger than 18! It's not an anomaly, it's just a frustrating thought! I myself am no journalist, nor do I plan on being one. But these kids – younger-than-us kids – think they have real direction in their lives because of the work they showcase on the internet. It's crazy!
But hey, I was young too once. Now I am an old man! I'm crippling. I can feel the carpel-tunnel syndrome instilling itself in my wrists as I type this.
THE PORTION IN WHICH I TALK ABOUT VIDEO GAMES, PART 1
I know, I don't post much on these forums anymore. I don't read them either. I read the super-secret private porn section on occasion. I know a lot of you – particularly Good Doctor – are aching for my opinion on video games. Here's the truth – I've been very selective in what I play, lately. Very... exclusive? I'm tight on cash, you see. I don't know when I'll even be able to sample Odama! Fret not, as I type this, I am awaiting several birthday checks in the mail from a variety of long-removed (locationally!) relatives. I will go on a small purchase spree. Or not. It might be epic. Probably not. I only really want Odama, in upcoming releases.
Here's what I do like: I like Sonic Riders. It's a nice challenge. It's intense, but it's relaxing at the same time. It's got nice flow. It's got nice characters. It's got nice graphics. It's got very nice SEGA fanfare. More than adequate for me, the jaded SEGA fan.
It's not accessible, though. I found this out when I got a few friends together to play it. They knew I was crazy about the game. I've logged over 30 hours into it at that point – less than a week after release. That's a lot for me. But they couldn't quite grasp it so easily. We opted to switch it out. The XBOX got some play time, that day. They like Spikeout: Battlestreet. At least someone does.
NP: NOW PLAYING – THAT WHAT I'M LISTENING TO THREAD THREADY REDUX
Speaking of Sonic Riders - it's got a nice soundtrack. It's being published by WAVE MASTER on the day after the ides of March. In America, that is the ides of March. I'm looking forward to that day! But, until then, I'm going through a musically spiritual journey. Music that changes my life. Music that makes me reinterpret the universe in ways I never would have imagined. It's the final boss theme to Sonic & Knuckles. It's perfect, I think. It's manic – you can just tell it's about Super Sonic flying through space, smashing through boulders, to bring punishment to an evil genius. That's Eggman, just fyi. It's his robot. Sonic's greatest strength would become Super Sonic's greatest flaw – the rings. You need to keep the ring supply high in order to maintain your power as Super Sonic. Everyone knows this. So the final stage is all about destroying meteors, attacking a giant robot, and collecting rings in space.

Sonic Adventure 2's final battle was the 3D reincarnate of this. It's interesting, if highly frustrating.
MORE VIDEO GAMES ON A VIDEO GAME WEBSITE
I've boycotted Dance Dance Revolution. That's it. As if I didn't hate it enough before, I now have enough reason to loathe its very existence.
There's an arcade in Time Square that I frequent. I guess you could say that I'm a regular there. A Regular Paying Customer. You see, for the past few weeks, I've been going there solely to play Initial D Arcade Stage Ver. 3. A fantastic 2003 racing game by Sega Rosso. Perhaps one of the best racing games to hit the arcades since Daytona "LWD" USA. However, as of this past Tuesday, that machine is gone. No more.
It was removed to make way for the new DDR game. Dance Dance Revolution Supernova. The only supernova that game is going to cause is the giant fireball of stupidity that will erupt once DDR fans catch wind of its presence in that arcade. However, not being one to dwell on the past, I've taken up a new hobby:
IT'S CALLED THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 4
A genius game! It takes place a few years after the events of The House of the Dead 3, but we definitely don't play arcade games for the story, do we? Okay, maybe I do sometimes, but that's besides the point. HoTD4 is the best one since the second one. Not to put down the third one. It was quite good! But House of the Dead 4 is just awesome. It's hi-def awesome.

It's awesome.
So it's my new goal to at least make it to level 3 on one credit. Then four. Then complete it within 3 credits. I can already make it halfway through the second level on one credit.
I'm not going to give it a comprehensive write-up, though. No sir. Game reviews are passé. The "in" thing is trying it for yourself!
I KNOW YOU GUYS LIKE NINTENDO A LOT SO HERE YOU GO
I'm getting The Rub Rabbits! today as a birthday gift for my sister. See, I made my last blog update on or around my sister's birthday. I got her Wild ARMs 4 this year, in case I didn't mention it. So, as a return favor, she's giving me Rub Rabbits. I'm excited to see how it is. I mainly asked for it because I needed a new DS game for my long commute to school every day. I've been playing a lot of Gunstar Super Heroes on my Micro to fill the void. But it's not enough anymore. I always want the next big thing. Rub Rabbits isn't the next big thing, but I hear it's a lot like Feel the Magic, except more charming. I'm all for adding more charm to my already highly-charming games!
I mainly wanted to try it out after checking out the official site. It's got nice music. I also hear it's in short-ish supply in America. I'm sure it's not exactly selling like hotcakes. Maybe because it's like Feel the Magic, a game with a success that was solely riding on the fact that it was a launch title. Maybe people are too embarrassed to play it. I don't know. I know I'm not (embarrassed).
AND FINALLY, A FEW WORDS THAT WILL OFF-SET THE DISJUNCTIVE NATURE OF MY BLOG ENTRY
In conclusion: happy birthday to me! You can tell that it has not exactly been the most eventful day given the length of this news post, although I do plan on some Friday night funtimez. I will leave you with some parting words of wisdom:
You are one sexy beast, my friend.
About the wisdom part – yeah, it was exaggerated.

Happy belated birthday. I'm too busy playing on XBL so I don't have time for these internets anymore. Go get a free trial or something and we can play Outrun and Spikeout together.
