Monthly Preview: Games of March

With spring soon to be upon us all, we can be happy that it's going to start off with a great selection of games.  This article doesn't include every game to be released in March, just the ones on our radar.  It should give you a handy list of the titles that you might be interested in, or should be.  From movie tie-ins to industry blockbusters, you shouldn't have any trouble finding something to play this month.

Based on the upcoming movie of the same name, Alice in Wonderland will hope to capture the look and feel of the magical world shown in movie theatres. Alongside iconic characters from the story, it is Alice's job to take down the Red Queen and restore Underland to how it used to be.

The highly anticipated sequel to Battlefield: Bad Company, Bad Company 2 features a top quality and expansive single player campaign along with exciting multiplayer modes. Not only are there plenty of new vehicles to choose from, the "Destruction 2.0" system will allow players to completely collapse buildings instead of just blowing out walls, which will allow for a variety of different tactical situations.

Another movie tie-in, Clash of the Titans takes on the form of an action game. The plot of the game focuses on the story of Perseus as he fights to destroy the minions of Hades, but you will also unlock new adventures beyond the movie that will give you even more time with the game. With over 100 different enemies, 15 different environments and the ability to steal enemies' weapons for yourself, there's sure to be a lot to do.

One of the most hyped games in several years is finally hitting store shelves in March, and Final Fantasy XIII is promising to give players many hours of enjoyment. Taking on the role of Lightning, you will travel through beautiful environments, battle plenty of monsters, and experience a story that you don't want to miss.

Sequel to the critically acclaimed God of War II, and the final part of the God of War trilogy, players will once again take on the role of Kratos as he tries to take revenge on the Gods of Olympus. With the visceral combat and beautiful environments being expanded on thanks to the power of the PS3, this has the potential to be Kratos' greatest adventure yet.

Players once again take on the role of Rico Rodriguez in the sequel to the 2006 game, Just Cause. The player is free to roam around a huge sandbox environment with plenty of different tools at their disposal throughout the world. With the addition of a new parachute and dual grappling hook, players will be able to get around the world by sling-shotting themselves into the sky and flying around at will.

The third game in the Lips franchise, Party Classics is relying on a list of 40 "classic" karaoke songs to get fans of the series back in front of the TV, mic in hand. Party Classics will also be compatible with regular USB microphones, to hopefully widen the appeal of the game.

Strong narrative is core to the experience of Metro 2033, and with no multiplayer component, the developers are trying to make it as good as possible. The game is technically an FPS, though the game also features RPG and survival-horror elements, with an emphasis on conserving bullets due to scarce supplies of ammo.

Releasing on the same day as MLB 2K10, MLB 10: The Show will also feature new updates and features that improve on the previous entry in the series. The most notable updates are in the form of "Road to the Show 4.0," an expansive career mode, and "Game Watch," where the player can watch every inning of the game.

MLB 2K10
is the most recent entry into the seasoned baseball sim franchise. Aside from general tweaks and fixes from previous game, the main addition to this game is the "My Player" feature, which will have players take on an in-game player's career from minors through to majors.

With an expansive career mode, MotoGP 09/10 hopes to be the best MotoGP game to date. On top of standard Championship, Arcade and online racing, the career mode will give players a huge amount of depth and control. Off-track you will be able to hire new managers and engineers, and on-track you gain reputation points by riding well, which will open you up to new teams and sponsors.

Set alongside the first season of the hit TV show Prison Break, The Conspiracy will follow the story of Tom Paxton, who has been sent to the same prison as Michael Schofield (the main character of the TV show) to find out more about him. Not only will you be fighting, but you'll also need to build up relationships with other key characters in the prison to find out everything you can and finish your mission.

With a completely new art style and different gameplay mechanics, Red Steel 2 is looking to be much better than its predecessor. With the addition of Wii MotionPlus controls, very precise and detailed movement will be tracked in the Wii Remote, which will hopefully make the sword fighting and gunplay much more exciting and enjoyable than in the original game.

Composed of the original Resident Evil 5 product and some new DLC packs, Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition doesn't offer a huge amount for players who already own the original game. All DLC featured in the Gold Edition will also be available for download for owners of the original version, so this is really aimed at people new to the game. The DLC featured in the product will contain two playable episodes, two costume packs, and eight playable characters for the online Mercenaries mode.

Released on the PS2 in 2005, So Long, My Love has been a long time coming to Wii. It's a strategy RPG that also features a lot of character interaction to make progress through the story, and depending what you say and do, certain events can have different outcomes. The combat has two forms: ground combat, where you control a standard mech, and air combat, where your mech transforms into a jet.

The sequel to the acclaimed Supreme Commander, Supreme Commander 2 follows on from the story laid out in the expansion for the original game. Using classic real-time strategy gameplay, players will control mechs and futuristic weaponry to take down their opponents as war begins to escalate.

With the addition of many new modes of gameplay, Yakuza 3 should give fans plenty of what they want. The main Adventure Mode is where the story will be told over many missions, and gameplay can span from exploring the city to beating up gang members. If you get tired of that though, there are also twenty mini-games available such as golf, darts and even massage to keep you occupied.

And... that just about takes us through March.  If you didn't see a game you're looking forward to on our list, it's either not coming out in March or it's not worth looking forward to.  See you next month.

We didn't include any handheld or downloadable games this month, but we'll look into more high profile handheld/downloadable releases for next month. For the record, I am looking forward to the new Pokémon game, and the Pokéwalker looks like a really interesting addition.

Just tried Just Cause 2. It has potential to be a gem. But the 3D modeling blows, the animation blows, and the voice overs blows. too bad.
