End Boss 2006, Day 22: Emperor Bulblax (Pikmin)
Posted June 22nd 2006 by Dan Biersdorf.
Emperor Bulblax

Pikmin
At the end of Captain Olimar's thirty day treck lies his final rocket ship piece, the "Secret Safe", containing the small fortune which he'll need before making his way back home from the bizarre planet that homes the little creatures known only as Pikmin. Guarding his moo-lah, however, is the gigantic Emperor Bulblax, and like virtually every other creature on the unknown world is more then willing to take a bite out of anything that conflicts with its daily life.

"The Final Trial" is the last uncharted section of the planet that you have to fight your way through. It's home to only one missing rocket ship piece (the previously mentioned "Secret Safe"). The zone will challenge each different color of Pikmin and utilize each of their own distinct characteristics. Due to the level's massive size it requires an entire in-game day to be beaten, so you'll have no time to waste.
With the final piece in sight, Emperor Bulblax will interrupt by digging through the very ground you walk on. With the time ticking down you'll have to use your Pikmin and attack the beast with full force. Aside from the Emperor's massive size, he also has a vicious tongue that can extend out to greath lengths and consume anything that it touches, easily dwindling your army of Pikmin before you know it. His immense weight can also put Olimar and your party in danger, for if you or your party accidently crosses under his footsteps you'll find yourself racking up a high death toll.

You're not impressing anyone with that tongue, mister. Except maybe Mrs. Bulblax.
Due to the Emperor's large size, you'll have one major advantage over him – speed. With clever manuevering and direction of your troops the Emperor may infact appear easier then you might have thought. It's very possible to trick the Emperor into eating explosive berries by having a brave Pikmin flaunt himself in front of the beast while carrying the food and then quickly return home, leaving the explosive food behind and temporarily knocking out Bulblax. While he's down you'll have the opportunity to order your fellow comrades to jump on his back and start pummeling away until he can't handle anymore, leaving you with the Secret Safe.
With his trusty spaceship finally fixed and his fortune recovered, Captain Olimar says farewell to the tiny Pikmin and takes off, heading for home.
