End Boss 2006, Day 15: Giga Bowser (SSBM)

Posted June 14th 2006 by Gareth Trinkwon.

Giga Bowser

Super Smash Bros. Melee

He's big, he's mean, he's Bowser on steroids, and he's here to ruin your day. Just because he can.

Having ventured through the diverse lands of Nintendo world, battling goombas, avoiding redeads, and showing Kirby who's boss, our hero arrives at his final destination and finds the most twisted fiend of all: Bowser. Fortunately, for any self-respecting adventurer, Bowser isn't that much of a threat. Sure, he talks big, and he's got those horns, but when it comes to putting foot to ass, old lizard face just isn't that great. Ask any plumber. A few fists thrown and he's off off the stage in no time. But Bowser, being the incredibly sore loser that he is, has his fill of spinach and returns to the battle stage for a final showdown. Nobody makes a fool out of Bowser Koopa!

With a bolt of lightning Bowser transforms into something else. Something... Giga. Sporting bigger spikes, scarier horns and a hairstyle that can fill any mere mortal with absolute terror, the lizard increases in size and lets out a mighty roar. This is the fight to end all fights. The coup-de-gras. No spectators, no interference. Just you, and a 20ft fire-breathing lizard. Piece of cake.

Fortunately for our nameless hero, Giga Bowser retains much the same moveset as his smaller, less fearsome persona. Flame breath, claw swipe, even the butt-stomp. Do watch out for that last one though. His rear has significantly increased in size since your last encounter. Remember, if you find yourself in his shadow, and he's not in your line of sight, pray. And move. But pray first.

Oh, and word of advice? Players looking to humiliate their gigantic foe will find comfort in the knowledge that Jigglypuff proves to be a very effective character to bring along. Her devastating sleep attack, which usually requires pinpoint accuracy is considerably easier to pull off on a foe of Giga Bowser's size. Try not to get hit though. Poor Jiggly gets knocked around pretty easily.

After battering the colossal lizard and upping his damage percentage by an unnecessarily high amount, our hero smash attacks poor Bowser right off the stage, and we'll leave the rest to good old gravity, shall we?
