End Boss Month: Day 20 (Rudy, Dr. Mario 64)

Posted June 20th 2005 by Ben Wood.

RUDY

Dr. Mario 64 (N64)

Folks, Dr. Mario is a classic puzzle game first released in 1990. Apparently Nintendo, known for its simpler storylines, decided that Dr. Mario needed a bit of a story of its own. And so one was created for this bargain-priced N64 game. Or rather, two: one told form the perspective of Mario, and one from Wario's.

It's flu season, and Dr. Mario is as busy as ever. Mad Scienstein is commissioned to steal the Megavitamins, while Wario thinks stealing them will make him rich! Scienstein gets his hands on them first! Mario and Wario chase him, overcoming every obstacle in the way with an extreme round of virus elimination, until arriving at a gloomy castle. Who is waiting anxiously for the Megavitamins?

Not Bowser... Not Tatanga... Not even Donkey Kong... RUDY!

Who is Rudy?

Your guess is as good as mine. But he wanted the megavitamins because he's sick. In the first storyline, Mario defeats him, then cures him. He is a doctor after all. In the other, Wario defeats him and takes the megavitamins, to have them pilfered by Scienstein, and the credits roll as Wario gives chase. What happens to those two? Perhaps Nintendo will treat us to a sequel to this fabulous story and these never-head-of-again villains.
