New In Theaters: May 29, 2009
Posted May 28th 2009 by Derrick Lutz.

People sometimes tell me that I'm overly critical and always assume the worst. This weekly update shows them how right they are. I take a quick look at what's coming out in theaters this weekend, and why most of it is probably not worth seeing. If you get nothing else out of it, you will at least be informed of the titles of the movies being released this weekend.

Drag Me to Hell

Sam Raimi finally makes another movie that isn't Spider-Man. The critics seem to like it, 95% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes... I don't know. Personally the only Sam Raimi movie I think is really good is A Simple Plan. This whole tongue-in-cheek B-movie horror genre doesn't do anything for me.

Up

Believe it or not, I don't want to hate everything. I wanted to look forward to this movie; I generally like Pixar stuff. But... I do hate fat little kids with a spunky can-do attitude. And old men who put on a curmudgeonly facade but then immediately drop it and turn into your fun-loving Grandpa at the slightest prodding. So yeah. I still suspect I'll enjoy this movie if I ever see it, but right now I hate these characters.

Paper Kitten
Drag Me to Hell's praise is really surprising based on the title itself and the overdone nature of most crappy horror movies. Might have to check it out.
