Movies And Games Together On Blu-ray
Posted February 12th 2009 by Derrick Lutz.

In an interview with Video Business, John Koller, Director of Hardware Marketing for SCEA, revealed Sony's plans to release hybrid game/movie Blu-ray discs this year. I don't know who this is aimed at, or who's going to be willing to pay what I assume will be the same price of a PS3 game and Blu-ray movie (so around $85) for the "convenience" of having them on the same disc.
I can, however, imagine how this hairbrained idea came into Sony's head. "Oh I know, let's combine two things that have not performed as well as we hoped. Together maybe they can count as one thing performing well!"
This also calls attention to the fact that the vast majority of games do not take advantage of the capacity Blu-ray offers. Even for the ones that do, most of the space is usually taken up by needlessly uncompressed audio. I'm not going to make a judgment call about whether it was a good or bad idea to use Blu-ray in the PS3, but clearly the increased capacity was not a necessity in this generation.

I was more thinking that they finally found a way to sell copies of Resident Evil: Extinction, by bundling it with Resident Evil 5. Step 3: PROFIT!
